Manitoba SOS- Students Offering Support

Manitoba SOS- Students Offering Support We are a new student group at the University of Manitoba. With the help of many student volunteers, we raised 8K and helped over 600 students so far.

SOS is a national, student-led charity where volunteers teach their peers in “Exam-AID” review sessions, raising money for development projects in Latin America, built by students! Since 2004, we’ve taught 25,000 students and raised $1 million while helping children gain access to education. Students Offering Support Manitoba Chapter (or Manitoba SOS) was founded in September 2012. Since then, ove

r 60 volunteers have participated in different areas of the program including marketing, human resources, logistics, outreach and finance. Manitoba SOS is an UMSU-officially recognized group. After discussion with the Faculty of Science and the University 1 First Year Center, Manitoba SOS became supported in various ways by both faculties. Over the past two years, we have helped over 600 students raise their marks in 12 different courses and we raised $8000. All the money went to building educational projects with this summer's outreach trip going to Talanga, Honduras where trip participants and volunteers will build a feeding center/ tutoring space for children and be part of this amazing experience.
