Empowering Our Sisters

Empowering Our Sisters Empowering Our Little Sisters strengthens and re-establishes traditional Indigenous knowledge for Aboriginal girls age 10 to 14.

Empowering Our Little Sisters (EOLS) was created in 2005 in recognition of the need for friendship, relationship building and positive mentorship for Aboriginal girls in Winnipeg. EOLS meet every Friday evening from 5:00PM-8:00PM at Ka Ni Kanichihk to share in group activities to strengthen and re-establish knowledge of our culture and traditions. This program offers young girls ages 10 to 14 the

chance to learn about the powwow dancing circle with their mom/caregiver (father, grandparent, aunt, foster parent or worker). We offer our participants the chance to create their own regalia as well as the chance to take part in cultural teachings that go along with becoming a dancer. Part of our mandate is to provide our youth participants with mentors and role models. We seek Elders, traditional teachers and positive female community members to share their time and expertise with our Little Sisters. Take part in cultural teachings on The Rites of Passage, Sacred Medicines, Fasting, Sundance, Sweat lodge, Shake Tent, and Full Moon Ceremonies.
