The WestEnd Commons is a project of St Matthews Non Profit Housing Inc. Addressing the need for safe and supportive housing in the neighbourhood, the upper floors of St. Matthew's Anglican Church have been transformed into 25 homes for families. The lower level is home to the Neighbourhood Resource Center. The Centre offers permanent and occasional rental space to accommodate a wide range of programs, services, events and meetings. In addition, six agencies and community groups also operate within the Centre to support the people of West Central Winnipeg. Rental space includes:
-Offices available for immediate rent
-Assembly Hall (160 ppl)
-Multi-Purpose Room (18 ppl)
-Atrium (16 ppl)
-Thelma Wynne (40 ppl)
-Drop-in Center (50 ppl)
-Commercial Kitchen (newly renovated)

We’re Hiring: Executive Director

Do you love community development, building relationships, and creating spaces where people feel connected and supported?

WestEnd Commons is looking for an Executive Director to join our community!

WestEnd Commons is a unique housing and neighbourhood resource in West Central Winnipeg. We bring together 26 family housing units, a Neighbourhood Resource Centre, social enterprise spaces, and several worshipping congregations — all under one roof.

This is an evolving leadership position with the opportunity to help shape what WestEnd Commons becomes next. The Executive Director will oversee the day-to-day operations of the building, supervise staff, manage residential and NRC rentals, lead fundraising, support the board, and most importantly, help build relationships and a strong sense of community within WestEnd Commons and the neighbourhood around us.

We’re looking for someone who:

Has experience in community development and collaboration

Is a strong, flexible and creative leader

Believes in empowerment and community capacity building

Has experience supervising staff and managing programs

Is comfortable working with diverse communities and families facing multiple barriers

Has strong communication, organizational and problem-solving skills

Can work independently while also being part of a team

Experience with nonprofits, boards, housing/property management and knowledge of Winnipeg’s social supports are considered assets.

$27–$30/hour depending on experience
35 hours/week
Start: September 2026 (negotiable)

This time of year always makes me slow down and notice what really matters.

As the cold settles in and the streets grow quieter, WestEnd Commons stays full of life people cooking together, sharing coffee, checking in on one another, and doing their best to get through another Winnipeg winter. I get to witness small, brave moments every day: someone settling into their first safe home in years, neighbours helping neighbours, people choosing to keep going even when things are heavy.

Winter is especially hard for many in our community. Fixed incomes stretch thinner. Isolation feels louder. And the need for connection and safety grows more urgent.

That’s why I’m reaching out.

Your donation helps keep our doors open, our lights on, and our community supported from warm meals and shared programming to emergency supports and safe, affordable housing in the West End.

More than anything, your generosity sends a powerful message: you matter, you belong, and you are not alone.

Have you been meaning to visit WestEnd Commons or wondering what happens inside our building? Our Warm Hearts, Warm Homes Open House is coming up this Saturday, and we would love to welcome you.

Drop in anytime to explore our beautiful space, meet our team, and learn more about the work we do to create affordable housing and a strong, connected community.

Enjoy finger foods, a warm cup of apple c***r, and good conversation as you take a short tour and get a feel for the heart of WestEnd Commons.
