Monarch butterflies are once again fluttering around Henteleff Park!
Monarchs live between two to six weeks, except for the last generation of the summer, which flies south to overwinter in central Mexico. It takes several generations to make the return trip north in the spring, so the Monarchs we see in Henteleff Park are the great-grandchildren of those that left Mexico.
🦋The beautiful Monarch Butterfly is an endangered species. Here’s how you can help:
🌸Monarch caterpillars can only feed on native Milkw**d. Plant milkw**d in your garden, checking to be sure you purchase native milkw**d because non-native varieties can harm the ecosystem.
🌸Adult butterflies consume nectar from wildflowers. Plant a variety of flowers in your yard. They enhance your landscape and support biodiversity.
🌸Avoid using pesticides, because they can kill butterflies.
🌸Enjoy caterpillars and butterflies with your eyes only. Catching butterflies or picking up caterpillars can harm the insect.
Visit Henteleff Park to see our wild, native milkw**d and beautiful Monarch butterflies.
