At just 10 years old, Sarah faced one of life’s toughest battles—cancer. But through her struggle, she found hope and inspiration when her wish was granted. Later on, Sarah and her mom became part of the Make-A-Wish family as volunteers, donors, and speakers.

Fast forward to today, she’s a Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Fellow, spreading the same light and compassion that guided her through her own challenges.

From cancer survivor to wish alumni to pediatric oncologist, Sarah’s story embodies the power of hope and giving back 💙 Together, we can help more children like her dream big and achieve even bigger.

Shining Stars of Hope and Strength

Stars are symbols of eternal hope and love. They are the shining lights that guide us, like the inspiring presence of Mothers and Grandmothers, their love and hopes reflected in us like the brilliance of the stars in the night sky.

Make-A-Wish Canada is a shining star for sick children and their families, lighting the path to hope and strength, through the healing power of a child’s wish fulfilled. From inspiring strength to creating moments of hope and joy, every wish makes a difference.

Proceeds from the sale of the Shining Stars necklace will be donated to Make-A-Wish Canada, enabling the starlight of your Mother’s Day gift to shine on sick children and their families in our community.

In celebration of National Volunteer Week, Make-A-Wish Canada’s Manitoba’s Chapter is proud to announce our 2025 Volunteer Award recipients - individuals and groups who have gone above and beyond in their commitment to granting life-changing wishes.

We are thrilled to recognize Silver & Gary Peltier as our Provincial Volunteer of the Year. For 35 years, Silver and Gary Peltier have been dedicated champions of Make-A-Wish. Hosting an incredible third-party fundraiser not only have they raised nearly $1.8 million, but they have also inspired wish families to participate in their fundraisers.

We’re also celebrating Neil Haeusler – Grain Challenge Hockey Tournament, the winner of the Community Impact Award. Since 1998, Neil has played a key role in the Agricultural Hockey Tournament, and in 2003, he took over the event. Under Neil’s leadership, the tournament has raised over $570,000 and become a major annual fundraiser for Make-A-Wish Canada. Neil’s generosity, community spirit, and commitment to growing his impact is instrumental to wish granting.

And, our Rookie of the Year is Emely Diaz. Since joining in August 2024, Emely has made an immediate and meaningful impact as a volunteer. Her dedication stands out as she supports wishes not only in Manitoba but also virtually for families in Ontario—going wherever she’s needed. Emely’s flexibility, initiative, and heartfelt support make her a standout volunteer in her first year with Make-A-Wish Canada.

We are so grateful to Silver & Gary, Neil Haeusler, Emely, and all of our volunteers for their unwavering dedication. You are the reason we can continue to transform children’s lives, one wish at a time.

💙 Meet Keara and Harry—two former wish kids who found love and are now giving back as Wish Granters at Make-A-Wish Canada.

Their story began in 2018 during high school. Keara had just finished her cancer treatments when Harry was starting his own battle. She reached out to offer support, and what started as a small gesture of kindness blossomed into a heartfelt relationship.

Today, Keara and Harry are on the other side of the wish-granting experience, creating unforgettable memories for kids who need them the most. From wish reveals to personalized celebrations, they share the same hope they once held onto. ✨💫

Brock connects deeply with his Mohawk and Métis heritage through gardening, traditional music, and stories. Diagnosed with a nervous system disorder that limits his mobility, Brock wished for something special—a wheelchair-accessible medicine garden.

Recently, that wish came true! Now, Brock and his family can grow food and medicines together, creating meaningful moments outdoors. This garden isn't just a space; it's a way to honour Brock's heritage and enhance his quality of life for years to come. 🌱✨

Ellie was just 10 years old when she was diagnosed with cancer. Her family’s life was turned upside down as they moved to Florida for her treatment, leaving behind their jobs, school, and community. Ellie endured a gruelling journey: three facial surgeries, eight rounds of chemotherapy, and 20 sessions of proton radiation.

Now in recovery, Ellie is bravely learning to navigate life beyond her diagnosis. From regrowing her hair and embracing her facial scar to working through the emotional weight of her experience, she stands as a testament to resilience and courage.

Ellie wished to see her favourite animal, the flamingo, in its natural habitat. Thanks to supporters like you, her family embarked on an unforgettable trip where they practiced yoga with flamingos, conquered water slides, jet-skied, and spent precious time together, making memories they’ll treasure forever. 🦩💖
