Congratulations to on this latest achievement! We’re proud of our 2022 Kobzar Book Award winner. Listen to Maria’s conversation with playwright Andrew Kushnir on episode 1 of our podcast : Defying the Art of Extinction. https://shevchenkofoundation.com/kultura-rising/

Knopf Canada is proud to announce that ENDLING by Maria Reva is the winner of the 2026 Amazon Canada First Novel Award. 🎉

This metafictional tour de force is a darkly comic story about love, war, and survival in modern-day Ukraine. In a novel that only Maria could write, an eccentric scientist (who breeds rare snails in her trailer) crosses paths with a pair of sisters who are posing as members of the marriage industry in a bid to find their missing activist mother. When Russia invades, this unlikely trio embarks on a wild journey alongside a group of kidnapped international bachelors and a very charming, rare snail 🐌

 Congratulations on this phenomenal achievement!

How well do you know your Ukrainian history? While many of us have probably thought we should have paid more attention in Ukrainian school, the attempted erasure of Ukraine as an idea, as a people, a language, a culture, has prompted us to learn more. Writer Adrian Lysenko and illustrator Ivanka Galadza ease readers into the topic of the Holodomor with a graphic novel titled Five Stalks of Grain. Listen to their thoughts on the lessons of history and the way forward – with optimism – in episode 5 of Kultura Rising with your host Andrew Kushnir.

Congratulations to the UFest Edmonton Ukrainian Festival team on a successful weekend celebrating Ukrainian culture, community, and connection.

From navigating stormy weather on Friday evening to welcoming a beautiful full day of festivities on Saturday, the UFest team and volunteers showed incredible care, adaptability, and dedication in keeping festival-goers safe while bringing the community together.

We’re especially grateful to our Shevchenko Foundation Ambassadors, Helena Hnatek and Anika Bacinski, who joined the celebration, connected with attendees, and captured community reflections on what makes Ukrainian festivals so meaningful.

Festivals like UFest are a beautiful reminder of what your support helps make possible: spaces where Ukrainian culture is celebrated, shared, preserved, and carried forward by the next generation.

Wills and estate giving can take many forms beyond including a charitable gift in a will.

Some options may include:
• Naming a charity as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy
• Gifts through RRSPs or RRIFs
• Donating securities
• Giving through a donor-advised fund or family foundation

Many of these approaches may also provide additional tax advantages while helping support cultural initiatives and future generations.

Your legacy can continue through the values, community, and culture you choose to invest in.
