IRCOM - Immigrant & Refugee Community Organization of Manitoba IRCOM is an organization that aims to help newcomers to Canada on their settlement journey through affordable housing, programs and services.

IRCOM strives to empower newcomer families to integrate into the wider community through affordable transitional housing, programs, and services. IRCOM OBJECTIVES
Housing: To provide safe and affordable transitional housing to low-income newcomer families in their 1st three years of living in Canada. To ultimately provide newcomer families with a comfortable and nurturing environment that empowers both parents and children to smoothly adapt to their new community. Programming: To connect people with quality and accessible programs that support participants and community members to gain the tools they need to integrate and settle into Winnipeg life. Our programs will consistently aim to fill gaps and build partnerships with others working in the community and settlement sectors. Be agents of change: Help to facilitate systematic change by engaging the public and policy makers to better understand newcomer issues, while highlighting the stories and voices of newcomers with the goal of achieving wider societal change. Build Community: Create and support a community within and beyond IRCOM where individuals feel safe, loved, cared for, welcome, supported, respected and included. Develop as ‘learning’ organization: To be a ‘learning organization’ that is always developing, adapting and growing, as we work to meet the changing needs of our staff, stakeholders and community members. At IRCOM, we love what we do with our community. We are full of hope and optimism. Here, everyone should feel welcome, safe and respected. We believe that we are not just ‘clients’ ‘staff’ or ‘volunteers’. We are all part of the same community.

Today, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we honour the children who never returned home, the Survivors of residential schools, and the families and communities who continue to carry their stories.

At IRCOM, reconciliation also means learning. As we welcome newcomers, we believe it is important to understand the histories, cultures, and experiences of Indigenous Peoples and the land we now share.

IRCOM is located on Treaty 1 Territory and the National Homeland of the Red River Métis.

Today, we listen, learn, remember, and continue the work of building relationships rooted in respect.

Please note that IRCOM is closed today, September 30.

We're honoured to share that IRCOM received the Welcoming Community Champion Award at the Manitoba Mosaic Awards on September 17! What a beautiful evening recognizing the excellence that newcomers bring to Manitoba!

A thrilled team from IRCOM happily accepted the award on behalf of the staff, volunteers, partners, supporters, and newcomer families who make IRCOM what it is. Looking around the room, we were reminded that this recognition reflects a community effort spanning more than 35 years.

One of the most powerful stories shared was from Dawit Kiflom, whose family was the first to move into IRCOM Isabel in 2016. Today, he is the founder and CEO of BNND Tech Solutions. Reflecting on his journey, he said: "IRCOM changes lives. They help families move from isolation to belonging, and from merely surviving to truly thriving."

We are grateful to Minister Marcelino, Lieutenant Governor Anita Neville, our nominator SEED Winnipeg, our supporter Mosaic Newcomer Family Resource Network, and Dawit…and everyone who supported our nomination.

This award belongs to the entire IRCOM community. Thank you for helping create communities of belonging.

In August, thanks to the generous support of the Province of Manitoba and Canadian Heritage, IRCOM hosted our annual Meet the Neighbours BBQ.

The event brought together IRCOM families, staff, community members and neighbours for an afternoon filled with food, fun and connection.

From henna and face painting to a hands-on planting station, families celebrated culture, creativity and community. We were especially grateful to partner with Jeannie White Bird of Rolling River First Nation, who shared her knowledge at the Grandfather Bundle station. Her teachings reminded us how the earth provides the gifts we need to stay grounded, connect with our heritage and honour our ancestors.

Thank you to everyone who joined us. We look forward to bringing our
community together again next year.
