June is National Indigenous History Month, an opportunity to learn about the cultures, traditions, and experiences of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples in Canada.
A better Winnipeg is only possible when Indigenous Peoples shape services and spaces for their communities. United Way Winnipeg honours and celebrates Indigenous ways of knowing, doing, and being, and seeks to amplify First Nations, Inuit, and Métis voices for a more inclusive city.
Since United Way Winnipeg was founded in 1965, we have been taking deliberate steps towards a more equitable community. Today, this looks like:
🧡 Investing more than $3.8 million annually in Indigenous-led agencies and programs
🧡 Walking with an Indigenous advisory committee
🧡 Co-creating solutions to structural racism, systemic barriers, and other oppressions
🧡 Working toward and encouraging decolonization—with ourselves, our organization, our community, and beyond.
This month invites all of us to learn more, listen well, and reflect on the rich history, heritage, and diversity of Indigenous Peoples.
