đź’™ Our children are growing up in a digital world, and the online risks are growing along with them.

A recent national report from Children First Canada identified online harms as the #1 threat currently facing children in Canada.

The report cites online s*xual victimization incidents reported to police increased 347% between 2014 and 2024. The true numbers, including those not reported, are likely much higher.

Our children are increasingly being exposed to dangers through social media, gaming, messaging apps and emerging technologies.

When children, parents, educators and communities understand the online dangers and warning signs associated with different forms of human trafficking, we are all better equipped to recognize risk, start conversations and help keep young people safe.

We had an absolute blast at our very first Pickleball in Action community event! The sold-out crowd brought the energy, the laughs and some serious pickleball spirit as we “Rallied Back in Time.” 💙

Today, we acknowledge the lasting impacts of residential schools, and we honour the survivors, their families, and the children who never came home.

🚨 Parents: That “calculator” on your child’s phone might not be a calculator.

Some apps look ordinary but can open hidden photos, videos, messages, browsers or separate social media accounts when a code is entered.

Known as decoy or “vault” apps, they can make it harder for parents and caregivers to see what’s happening online.

🔎 Review download history for unfamiliar apps.

But the most important step is to talk with your child.

Ask what apps they use and what they like about them. Talk about privacy, what they might encounter online and what they can do if someone makes them uncomfortable. Let them know they can come to you, even if they are worried they have made a mistake.

One conversation may not cover everything. Keep talking, keep listening and make it easy for them to ask for help.
