We built Jesse’s house!

Today Jesse, Keo, and little Colton got the keys to their new house! We brought (almost) everyone who worked on it by to welcome them. Building this house provided training opportunities for our folks, and now it’s an opportunity for Jesse and his family to put down roots and make it their home. If people can pay rent, they can pay a mortgage! We’re excited to move onto our next builds and get more people into their own homes.

It’s hard to write something that doesn’t sound trite—“you belong!” “you matter!”—on a day that is both a celebration and a remembrance. The thing is, trans, Two-Spirit, non-binary, and gender non-conforming people do belong and they do matter. If you’re celebrating today, go off! If you’re remembering, take care. Either way, know that we’re happy you’re here.

The latest cohort of folks started on our job sites this morning. The shop is quiet, but Eddie the dog is here, working hard for his treats.

It always feels good when we can share what we’re doing and, maybe more importantly, what we want to do. Being able to scale is so important to us. We have the capacity! We have the people! We (hopefully) have the land to build on. Imagine more affordable four bedroom homes for families, two and three bedroom townhouses, one bedroom rentals. Diversity is what’s required to meet the housing crisis head on, and we’re ready.

Yesterday’s mild weather was the perfect backdrop for our “out on the land” day. This time folks went snowshoeing and had lunch.
Some people might wonder why we do this if we’re a trades training program. The simple fact is that getting outside is good for the body, mind, and spirit, and for some folks, they don’t get to do it. We’re all about providing opportunities and we see this as just another thing to offer. Many thanks to our friends at for leading the walk, providing the gear, and being down to do this with us.
