Canada's sanctions fall short from ending settler violence and settlements.

This week, a disturbing photo of an Israeli soldier harassing a Palestinian woman in the Occupied West Bank went viral.

Israeli settlers are taking more land, expanding settlements illegally and forcing Palestinians out.

This is alarming. Recently, 113 settlement-related attacks were reported, 488 raids and 147 arrests of Palestinians by the IOF. 27,000+ settlement units have advanced. Over 36,000 Palestinians were displaced. At the center of this is E1, which will permanently divide the West Bank and cut off Palestinians if it moves forward.

We must put an end to this NOW! We demand accountability, sanctions and a trade ban.

Canada, and several of its allies, issued an important statement condemning Israel’s ongoing and repeated violations of international law.

Canada explicitly acknowledged that Canadian construction projects and business activities in occupied Palestinian territories — including on lands where illegal settlements currently exist — may carry legal and reputational risks.

This marks an important step forward.

It is now essential for the government to clarify what concrete measures Canada will take to ensure that Canadian businesses are neither currently involved nor permitted future involvement in illegal settlements on Palestinian land.
