Westwood Community Band

In 1980, the band director of Sansome School challenged the parents of his band students to form their own group, with the purpose of leading by example. A number of these parents responded and their on-going dedication, boosted by a steady input of new members, has blossomed into the Westwood Community Band. We aim to play good music and offer musical entertainment to the wider community.

River City Sound

River City Sound was founded in 1948 as a male barbershop chorus, known as the Winnipeg Golden Chordsmen. It was, and is, a chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, singing 4 part, a ca****la music. In 2018, it was decided to add female voices to the group, and thus we became a mixed chorus known as River City Sound. Our repertoire includes music of different genres, including doo-w*p, rock and roll, swing, blues, and contemporary pop songs.

Little Big Band

The Little Big Band (LBB) was “born” during the first lull in the COVID pandemic. The guidelines were allowing for some widely spaced social contact so a mini swing style big band, no more than 10, widely spaced in a full sized gym, was within the rules and felt safe. What was a makeshift idea ended up becoming a permanent venture over the next few years. Our repertoire ranges from early swing through to Chicago and Gordon Goodwin.
