2026 Members’ Screening Submissions Now Open!

Submit your film to be considered for the WFG’s annual Members’ Screening. A peer based jury will select films to screen in Fall 2026 (date TBD).

The Winnipeg Underground Film Festival kicked off last night with a wonderful opening reception!

Over the course of the festival, six films from the Winnipeg Film Group Distribution Catalogue will screen across a variety of programs.

On Friday night at 7:00 PM. Cross (1.5 min, 2026) by Sandy McLennan and Melt Music (1.5 min) by Evan Rivard will screen in the infamous 90 Second at the Dave Barber Cinematheque, where all festival screenings are taking place.

Tomorrow evening at 8:30 PM, mystery byrd's b.longing (7 min, 2025) screens as part of What Holds Us Here.

On Saturday afternoon, Olivia Norquay's softer, softest (5 min, 2025) will have its Winnipeg premiere in the program Living Container.

Later that evening, Eric Peterson's Smoke Break (5 min, 2025) and Pique-nique (9 min, 2025) by Jérémy Gagnon will also be having their first Winnipeg screenings in What We Do Is Secret, beginning at 10:00 PM.

It's shaping up to be a fantastic festival. Be sure to get out there and catch these incredible films! 🌠

✨Festivals:

Over the weekend Sandy McLennan's short film Cross (1.5 min, 2026) screened at the Moviate Underground Film Festival in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

Here in Winnipeg, Melt Music (2 min, 2026) by Evan Rivard screened at the Manitoba Emerging Filmmakers Festival on Saturday, May 2!

New Year/New Work Film Festival presented by the The Film-Makers’ Cooperative in New York, New York, USA screened Zachary Finkelstein's Red Onion (7 min, 2025) .

✨Educational Screenings and Acquisitions:

Athabasca University in Athabasca, AB has acquired a Educational Streaming License for Land of Oil and Water (42 min, 2009) and Overburden (15 min, 2009) by Neil McArthur and Warren Cariou.

École communautaire Réal-Bérard in Otterburne, Manitoba hosted a screening of A Right to Eat (49 min, 2015) by Janelle Wookey and Jérémie Wookey.

êmîcêtôsêt - Many Bloodlines (11 min, 2020) by Theola Ross was screened by the Toronto School Board in Toronto, Ontario.

Casual Projectionist – Dave Barber Cinematheque (Union Position)

Join the WFG as we continue to grow our DBC operations.

POSITION: Causal Projectionist (IATSE Local 63)
This is a Union position
DEPARTMENT: Dave Barber Cinematheque
SUPERVISOR: Reports to the Box Office Manager; works closely with the Head Projectionist on technical operations
HOURS: 0 – 10 hrs a week
START DATE: As soon as possible
WAGE: $19.43/hour (per Schedule A of the WFG-IATSE Local 63 Collective Agreement)
BENEFITS: Vacation pay, overtime pay, general holiday pay (if working), professional development, free cinema tickets, auditing of WFG workshops, WFG Production film rental credits

Deadline to apply is June 10th, 2026 11:59 PM
