Winnipeg may not be where Kahanee was born, but it's where we spend our day to day; hosting dialogues, growing community, and building compassion.

This city is often the punchline (we see you, potholes), but look a little closer and you’ll find something else: care, connection, and people showing up for one another in quiet, powerful ways.

That spirit of care and connection is what makes this work possible.

We’re curious...what’s a moment where you’ve seen or experienced this in Winnipeg?

06/02/2026

When asked what Winnipeg might look like in the future, Mayor Scott Gillingham didn't miss a beat: "No potholes."

Honestly, we respect the optimism. 😂

In the Season 2 premiere of Between the Threads, Somia Sadiq and Mayor Gillingham explore what it takes to build a stronger, more connected Winnipeg and the role each of us plays in shaping its future.

What shapes a city?

Policies and plans matter, but so do the stories we carry and the connections we build along the way.

In the Season 2 premiere of Between the Threads, host Somia Sadiq sits down with Winnipeg Mayor Scott Gillingham for a conversation about leadership, community, belonging, and the experiences that shape our city. Together, they explore Mayor Gillingham's journey from pastor to politician and reflect on how compassion and connection can help build a stronger future for Winnipeg.

If you've been keeping up with Kahanee, you've seen posts about our incredible Laachi events... but what is Laachi?

Laachi is a year long initiative exploring belonging, identity and connection through different modes of expression. Each event, a different medium, a safe atmosphere to explore the good, the bad, the nuance surrounding belonging.

We have two events scheduled for later this summer with official announcements on the way (but the link is in our bio if you wanna be the first to jump aboard!)

Swipe through to explore each event!

Compassion doesn’t have to a large daunting task.

Sometimes it’s letting someone merge (yes, even that driver), picking up a piece of litter, or choosing connection over being right… just this once 😉

Small things, but they add up.

What’s one way you practice compassion in your day? 💛
