Join us for a virtual information session hosted by Student Advocacy in partnership with the University of Manitoba Graduate & Postdoctoral Society (UMGPS)!

Graduate school comes with its challenges, from coursework and research to navigating academic expectations and unexpected setbacks. Knowing your rights, responsibilities, and where to find support can make all the difference.

In this session, Julia Marina Ruiz Osso (Student Advocate) will share practical advice, lessons learned, and helpful resources to support you throughout your graduate studies.

We warmly invite our Graduate Student community to attend the Spirit of the Bisons event, celebrating Indigenous sports, community and culture, held on Saturday, November 21st.

The evenings events are as follows:
Women’s basketball vs. Alberta — 4 PM
Women’s hockey vs. Saskatchewan — 5 PM
Men’s basketball vs. Alberta — 6 PM

Current UM students receive free tickets, while UM alumni can claim up to two free tickets to every regular-season home game using promo code UMALUMNI26

Members are invited to join UMGPS for an upcoming research presentation and panel discussion on supporting neurodivergent students in graduate and professional programming.

Students with disabilities report some of the lowest levels of support, belonging, and progress toward their academic goals on campus. Faculty members can play an important role in creating more inclusive, supportive, and accessible learning environments.

The session will feature graduate students sharing their experiences, along with practical strategies faculty can use to better support student success.

Topics will include:

- Communicating clear expectations
- Scaffolding, timelines, and realistic goal setting
- Building strong student-faculty relationships
- Practical approaches to supporting neurodivergent students in graduate programming

UMGPS is partnering with the Academic Learning Centre to offer Graduate Student Writing Groups, giving you dedicated time and space to focus on your academic writing alongside other graduate students.

Bring your thesis, dissertation, research paper, or any other academic writing project and spend two focused hours making progress in a supportive environment.

Sometimes, the hardest part is simply making the time to sit down and write. Let’s make that time together.
