Acorn Family Place A place for families. For more information on our services, please visit http://acornfamilyplace.ca.

Acorn Family Place believes in building supportive relationships, facilitating growth, paying attention to strengths, respecting diversity, and furthering community development. Program areas include caregiver/child support, food and nutrition, recreation, life skills workshops, employment support, mental and physical health, and family literacy programs. Acorn Family Place is a non-profit organization that relies on external funding for sustainability.

PAY-WHAT-YOU-CAN THANKSGIVING LUNCH | OCTOBER 10 12-3 PM | 110 SHERBROOK ST

With the help of friends and neighbours donating food to the meal, our team will welcome members of the community for a Thanksgiving lunch in a pay-what-you-can format for folks who wouldn’t otherwise be receiving a hot meal that weekend. If you’d like to help, you can support in two ways:
👉 Donate towards the meal! We have a donation link in our bio – any donations will go towards ingredients for the meal, and any additional funds will be donated to our friends at RaY, Inc., who do so much for our community and beyond
👉 Help us spread the word! We’ll have posters in our shops this week and would love some help distributing!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Community Feast on September 25th.

We’re grateful to Mishkode Bizhiki Anishinaabek Drum Group and Elder Auntie Val for sharing songs and stories with us, and for inviting and encouraging everyone to join in through drumming, singing and dancing together.

Thank you to our Food Connections kitchen team for preparing a wonderful feast of Bison Chili and Bannock for everyone to enjoy and share. 🧡

Throughout the afternoon we had opportunities to reflect on reconciliation and what it asks of each of us. The thoughts shared on orange shirts are displayed throughout the centre as a reminder that this is an ongoing responsibility for us all to take part in. Blank shirts are still available throughout the centre, and we invite everyone to share what Truth and Reconciliation means to you.

Hello October! 🎃🍂

This month, we’re welcoming Eunnah, a social work student who will be with us until mid April. If you see her, make sure to say hi!

We’re excited to share that Creativity for Families with Art City will be starting on Monday mornings, and want to note that Cooking Class has been moved to Monday afternoons.

We want to thank Klinic Community Health, United Way Winnipeg and our generous community for all the donations of school supplies that we were able to give to families in September, and we hope everyone had a good first month back at school!
