A cleaner neighbourhood starts with people who care. 💙

Last week, LITE and 1JustCity came together with volunteers and community members for another neighbourhood clean up in Winnipeg’s North End.

At first glance, it may seem like we were simply picking up litter. In reality, these efforts are about so much more. They are about creating spaces where people feel safe, welcomed, and valued. They are about showing pride in our community and demonstrating that every street, every block, and every person matters.

Community transformation does not happen overnight. It happens through small acts of care, people showing up for one another, and individuals choosing to invest their time and energy into making their neighbourhood a better place.

To everyone who joined us, thank you. Your willingness to give back, connect with others, and care for the community is what makes this work meaningful. Together, we are building a stronger, cleaner, and more connected North End.

💙

When was the last time you showed up for your community?

Whether it was attending a community event, helping during a cleanup, supporting a local initiative, or simply lending a hand, those moments matter more than we often realize.

Strong communities are not built by one person. They are built by people choosing to care, participate, and show up for one another.

In North Point Douglas, every act of community care contributes to something bigger: safer spaces, stronger connections, and a neighbourhood we can all take pride in. 💙

We want to hear from you:

A cleaner community starts with us. 💙🧡

Every bag of garbage collected, every street cleaned, and every person who shows up makes a difference in North Point Douglas. These cleanup initiatives are about more than picking up litter. They are about creating safer spaces, building stronger connections, and showing pride in the neighbourhood we call home.

When communities come together, real change happens. Small actions create lasting impact, and every helping hand moves us one step closer to a cleaner, safer, and more connected future.

Be part of the change.
Let’s build it together. ✨

On Friday, May 1st, LITE partnered with 1JustCity and spent the day out across the city for a full neighbourhood clean up.

We covered ground, moving through different areas picking up garbage, clearing spaces that had been left behind, and safely collecting and disposing of syringes to help make the environment safer for everyone. It was constant work. Gloves on, bags filling up fast, people stepping in wherever they were needed.

At the same time, we were connecting with people throughout the day. Handing out cold water, sharing sandwiches, stopping to talk, checking in, and just being present with folks in the community. Those moments mattered just as much as the clean up itself.

By the end of the day, you could actually see the difference. Cleaner streets, safer spaces, and a reminder of what can happen when people come together and put in the work.

This is what real partnership looks like. Not just talking about change, but showing up and doing something about it.

We’re proud to stand alongside 1JustCity, and we look forward to continuing this initiative with our community partners and building on this work together.

People are leaving grocery stores with less than what they came in for.

Grocery pricing in Manitoba is being challenged. Rising costs are putting significant pressure on households and raising serious concerns around pricing practices, affordability, and access to food.

With growing discussions around predatory pricing and Bill 49, there is increasing recognition that food is becoming harder to afford across the province.

We are seeing the consequences of this every day.

For many Manitobans, this is becoming routine.

These difficult choices are why LITE exists, and why your support is important.

This is what real investment looks like.

LITE programs are built to move resources where they matter most. Into people, into skills, into communities that have been historically under invested and consistently overlooked. Every initiative is designed to turn opportunity into action through paid work, community driven food access, and local economic development that actually stays local.

This work is not about quick wins or surface level solutions. It is about momentum. It is about creating pathways where people can earn, contribute, and build stability for themselves and their families while strengthening the communities they belong to.

When communities lead and resources follow, the impact is real, lasting, and shared.

This is community action in motion.
This is what progress looks like.

Happy Monday everyone and I hope you all have a wonder day day! Stay warm! See you soon for trivia Tuesday. ☺️
