On August 12, LITE had the opportunity to partner with YES Manitoba for a Community Clean Up in downtown Winnipeg! 💚

YES Manitoba supports youth and young adults in building pathways toward employment through career development, skill building, job readiness, and meaningful community opportunities. This clean up was a great way to bring those goals to life by creating a hands on experience focused on teamwork, responsibility, confidence, and community involvement. 💙🧤🌎

We had an amazing group come out, work together, and make a visible difference in the downtown community while building skills and connections that can carry into future employment opportunities.

A huge thank you to YES Manitoba and everyone who participated. We are always grateful for partnerships that connect community impact with employment development and create meaningful opportunities for people to grow, contribute, and get involved.

Something very special is blooming in North Point Douglas!!

You’re warmly invited to join us for a North Point Douglas Community Garden Party on Sunday, August 23 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM, across from Barber House at 99 Euclid Avenue. Come spend the afternoon with neighbours, friends, poets, artists, and community members as we gather in the garden for poetry, music, refreshments, Garden Medicine Teachings, and a beautiful celebration of local creativity and community.

We are especially thrilled to celebrate the official launch of Monarda Press, a new publishing imprint of LITE Winnipeg, along with its very first literary chapbook, You Shine Today (You Are Not Lost). Edited by Winnipeg’s Inaugural Poet Laureate Di Brandt, this special collection showcases poems written by Indigenous and other local women from North Point Douglas and surrounding communities. Featured chapbook poets will be joining us to share their work, making this a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the voices, stories, creativity, and strength rooted right here in our community.

Everyone is welcome, so bring a lawn chair or blanket, settle into the garden, and spend the afternoon with us!

🌟🧡 What an incredible day of community impact! 🧡🌟

On July 31, LITE was proud to partner again with the Spence Neighbourhood Association (SNA) for an amazing community clean up, and the results were nothing short of incredible!!

In just two hours, our dedicated youth and community volunteers collected over 4 bags of garbage, helping make Winnipeg’s Downtown and North Douglas communities cleaner, safer, and more welcoming for everyone! 🌍✨

The encouragement we received throughout the day made this experience even more meaningful. Community members stopped to thank us, cheer us on, and share their appreciation for the work being done. Your support reminded us that every small action creates a lasting impact.

We are incredibly proud of our youth, volunteers, and community members who continue to show up, lead by example, and make a real difference. Together, we are creating stronger, cleaner, and safer neighbourhoods for everyone.

A huge thank you to the Spence Neighbourhood Association for partnering with us and to everyone who helped make this event such a success. We cannot wait for the next event! 💚

🗑️💚 Community in Action! 💚🗑️

This month, LITE was proud to partner with the Spence Neighbourhood Association for another successful community clean up event.

Together with an incredible group of youth volunteers, we spent the morning walking through the Spence neighbourhood, collecting litter and helping keep our community clean, welcoming, and vibrant. In just over an hour, our team filled more than three large garbage bags with litter collected from sidewalks, boulevards, and public spaces.

The best part was the overwhelming support from the community. As we worked, neighbours cheered us on, thanked our volunteers, and shared words of encouragement. It was a powerful reminder that even small acts of service can inspire pride, connection, and positive change.

At LITE, we believe community starts with people who care enough to take action. Seeing youth lead by example, work together, and make a visible impact in such a short amount of time was truly inspiring. Their dedication and enthusiasm demonstrated the difference young people can make when given the opportunity to give back.

A huge thank you to the Spence Neighbourhood Association, our dedicated youth volunteers, and everyone who stopped to support us along the way. Together, we’re building stronger, cleaner, and more connected neighbourhoods one block at a time. We can’t wait for the next one! 🌿♻️

What an incredible day!

LITE was proud to partner with CMWI who brought along Welcome Place for our latest Community Cleanup Initiative, bringing together over 100 participants from across Winnipeg. Together, participants targeted several areas throughout downtown Winnipeg, helping to remove litter, debris, and waste while contributing to cleaner and safer public spaces.

The impact was incredible. By the end of the day, participants had collected enough waste to fill multiple vanloads of garbage bags, demonstrating the power of community action and collective responsibility.

This event was especially meaningful as many of our participants were newcomers to Canada, creating opportunities to build connections, gain experience, and actively engage in their community while making a tangible difference.

We were also beyond excited to welcome CBC/Radio-Canada to the event. Having the opportunity to showcase the hard work and dedication of our participants through local media was an amazing experience, and we can’t wait to share the coverage with everyone soon.

A huge thank you to CMWI, Welcome Place, our volunteers, participants, and everyone who helped make this event possible. Seeing over 100 people come together with a shared commitment to community care was truly inspiring.

A cleaner neighbourhood starts with people who care. 💙

Last week, LITE and 1JustCity came together with volunteers and community members for another neighbourhood clean up in Winnipeg’s North End.

At first glance, it may seem like we were simply picking up litter. In reality, these efforts are about so much more. They are about creating spaces where people feel safe, welcomed, and valued. They are about showing pride in our community and demonstrating that every street, every block, and every person matters.

Community transformation does not happen overnight. It happens through small acts of care, people showing up for one another, and individuals choosing to invest their time and energy into making their neighbourhood a better place.

To everyone who joined us, thank you. Your willingness to give back, connect with others, and care for the community is what makes this work meaningful. Together, we are building a stronger, cleaner, and more connected North End.
