Why is the city of Winnipeg making it harder for people with low vision and other sensory disabilities to get around?

in consultation with us the city asked about art placement on streets and sidewalks
We clearly said, please don’t place art work and multi coloured designs on the surfaces of streets, sidewalks and bridges.

It is very confusing to navigate and makes it hard for us to find anything to use for wayfinding.

See these photos below the paint is already pealing making it even harder to safety walk around without worrying about tripping or falling.

This whole area is on Graham Ave.from Garry St going west where there are no vehicles it Is for pedestrians only.

We love art and very much appreciate the work that artists do, but putting beautiful art where it is walked on and you cannot see the whole detail unless from above and creates challenges for others makes no sense whatsoever.

it is extremely challenging!

Wishing you a very happy and safe long weekend.

Are you a good team worker bee?🐝

VIRN’s work is not always visible on social media. However, we are always working hard in the background on making positive changes in the community. It isn’t about being most popular, but it is about tackling real life challenges that can’t or shouldn’t always be shared. We aren’t heros, but our work is meaningful and has an impact on so many

We need your help to continue and grow Be a part of a team that works together to make a difference in the lives of people living with a vision impairment

If you are interested in volunteering with us, please contact us at 204-975-9340 or email [email protected].

We need people who want to work together towards the same goals.

Thank you!

Last Saturday, July 5 from 12:30 to 4:30 PM we held one of our Family and Friends events. We want to say thank you to everyone who came out. Everybody had a great time and seemed to really enjoy themselves.

The smokies and burgers were fantastic and the beverages from DMC were a hit as well. We were pleased to see so many new people. Also, we were happy to see the community have the chance to reconnect with others who haven’t been around for awhile. It is always nice to see that happen when VIRN brings the community together.

We also want to thank members from other organizations who were invited and were able to join us. That is what VIRN likes to see. Organizations supporting each other and working together.

Oh yes, we also want to mention that it was wonderful to have a couple little ones attend with their parents. It goes to show that we are welcoming and embrace family and friends.

Mark Saturday, August 9 for another event with VIRN. Details coming soon!

Enjoy our beautiful summer,

The VIRN Team
Thank you!
