🎉 Congratulations to Laura Lewis, winner of the RBC On The Rise Award at the Winnipeg Arts Council Mayor’s Luncheon for the Arts! MAWA was thrilled to nominate her for this distinction.

Lewis was recognized for her finely-wrought, large-scale figurative paintings, her growing accomplishments in the Canadian art world, and her actions in the community, continually supporting other artists and sharing knowledge.

This June MAWA is excited to host an exhibition by artists of the Fibre Art Network. Join us Friday, June 5 for the opening.

Opening Friday, June 5, 2026, 6 - 8 pm with artist talks at 7pm
Exhibition: Wednesdays-Fridays, June 10 - 26, 2026, 10 am - 4 pm

I AM … tells a visual story, sharing perspectives and snapshots in time by the varied and diverse artists of the Fibre Art Network. All of our lives are rich with different experiences. The time we live in has affected each of us in a unique way. Our different geographical locations influence the way we live and work. Yet, we are a cohesive group of artists who support each other and create art with fibre.

This exhibition is part of Journey Through Fibre, a celebration of fibre-related exhibitions and handmade work appearing in galleries, libraries, artist-led spaces, community venues, and major events throughout the province.

The initiative is supported by Textile and Fibre Artists of Manitoba and Manitoba Arts Network, with the goal of helping audiences see the larger fibre arts activity happening across the province. TFAM has long supported and promoted fibre artists in Manitoba, while Manitoba Arts Network works with artists, galleries, presenters, and communities to connect Manitobans with arts experiences across the province.

About the Cross-Cultural Beading Circle

Everyone is invited to learn in a welcoming atmosphere! No experience necessary. Novice and experienced beaders of all cultures, ages and genders are welcome. Sessions feature a guest beader, who will share their history with beading, their techniques and a project. A complete materials kit will be provided to each participant.

Some instructors offer their workshop twice, to create opportunity for more participants—do not enroll in both sessions of the same workshop.

If you register and find you cannot attend, please cancel with ample lead time so folks on the waiting list can participate. If finances are a barrier, please email [email protected]. Partial bursaries are available.
