We at the Riverton & District Friendship Centre are so incredibly proud of our Executive Director, Tanis Grimolfson not only today, but everyday.
Tanis has been our Executive Director for the last 20+ years which is shocking, as she’s just turning 30 this year.
She has became a pillar of our community and a driving force for organizational impact. Tanis has always employed an open-door policy and welcomes anyone who walks through the doors. However, Tanis has a special place in her heart for the many youth in the community and works tirelessly to help them succeed in any way she can.
Tanis believes that the investment in young people builds the community’s future, intergenerational cooperation within community, and leads to needed shared decision making in matters of importance.
Since Tanis’s time at the Friendship Centre, she has helped build the organization from having a small staff and central programming, to expanding out to employing numerous and multiple community members and bringing in new programming that support holistic wellbeing such as transitional housing, a food bank, a community garden, a Seniors Activity Centre, Beautiful Gym Facility, and opportunities for social enterprise all with the goal of supporting the prosperity and advancement of her community members.
Tanis was asked by our National to speak on behalf of a project that we have implemented at RDFC. The project is “food for the soul.”
She first mentioned how our community may not have thousands upon thousands of people, what it lacks in size, it makes up for in heart and spirit.
She did an outstanding job speaking and presenting upon the work RDFC is doing, the successes of our programs, and areas that we are in process of completing. Then went onto our “Food for the soul” which has been our latest project- an innovative and sustainable way to help in reducing food insecurity alongside our FC Food-bank with our community gardens.
Tanis always says “it takes a village to raise a child” and it sure does so we at RDFC thank all of our volunteers, board members, youth, elders, and everyone in between who helped us throughout the summer months on this project and for supporting us on our mission to make our community better, the best.
So a huge congratulations to Tanis on her speech in the capital of Canada, the traditional and unceded territory of the Algonquin Nation.
Sometimes good quality, and hard work goes unnoticed but not around here, we see all that you do and all that you are, and we are just so proud!
Once again, Congratulations Tanis!
