A few notes from the field: we had a lot of rain this week, so boots or old shoes are the move almost everywhere. Bug spray too. Several farms are also nearing the end of their season, so if strawberries are on your list, this may be one of your last chances.

One rule above all: check the farm’s page before you drive out. Conditions change by the hour out here, and the growers post updates as fast as they can.

DON’T MISS OUT IN 2026 The haskap might be the most underrated berry on the prairies. 🫐

It’s the first berry off the fields each summer, and researchers keep finding reasons to pay attention to it:

πŸ’œ Antioxidants β€” that deep purple colour comes from anthocyanins, plant pigments studied for easing inflammation and oxidative stress.

πŸ«€ Heart health β€” early research links haskap’s main pigment, C3G, to healthy blood pressure by helping blood vessels relax.

🧠 Memory β€” in small pilot studies, older adults recalled more words shortly after a haskap dose. The research is still early, and most studies used concentrated doses.

But it’s a good reminder that this tangy little berry is worth a spot in your basket. Ripe right now on member farms.

Tap the link in our bio to find one near you.

So you braved the heat to pick your haskaps, what to do with those delicious little jewels?
- Store your berry haul in the fridge.
- We recommend shallow containers, or not piling too many haskaps on top of each other.
- Do not rinse your haskaps before storing.
You may notice haskaps have a waxy appearance to them. This is their natural protective barrier they develop to hold in moisture and keep pests out. Haskaps are perfectly safe to eat as is, but a quick rinse of produce is always recommended.
-Haskaps are a fantastic berry to freeze for longer storage, but also perfect to jams, pies, muffins, syrups, bbq sauce.... the possibilities are endless. Please check our feed for recipe ideas.

All of our farmers want to provide the best experience for their customers possible, and that’s why we keep you updated!

This has been a wildly variable growing season. Cloudy stretches have slowed down ripening timelines at some farms, which means picking days can shift with very little notice.

Before you head out, please check our page and your farm’s social media for the latest hours. Farmers are updating as fast as they can, but conditions can change day to day.

Thanks for your flexibility this season, and for supporting the farms working hard to bring you fresh prairie fruit no matter what the weather does.

07/07/2026

This season has thrown a lot at our growers, cancelled picking days, slow ripening, unpredictable stretches of cloud. And through all of it, our farmers have been out there every day doing everything they can to bring you the best prairie fruit possible.

Growing food isn’t a 9 to 5. It’s early mornings, long days, and constantly adjusting to whatever the sky decides to do. So next time picking hours shift, remember there’s a farmer out there working twice as hard to make it happen anyway.

Take a moment to appreciate the people who grow what you eat. They’ve earned it this year more than most.
