MB Canary and Finch Club

MB Canary and Finch Club The Manitoba Canary & Finch Club (MCFC) was formed in order to promote the interest in & advancement of aviculture, specifically that of canaries & finches.

Celebrating 35 Years! The Manitoba Canary & Finch Club (MCFC) was founded in February 1991. Our first meeting took place later on that month, with a total of 9 perspective members. The idea for the club was discussed and a name was chosen. Since the first initial meeting, the club has grown to over 60 members. The MCFC is very unique in that we do not have, nor do we promote bird shows. We are a s

trictly non competitive organization. Club members volunteer for positions and we've never had formal elections or rules of order. We are all in it for the fun and comaraderie, as well as helping one another. We meet once a month and have recently started supper meetings. At our regular meetings we have guest speakers, videos, presentations by the members themselves as well as projects such as making nests out of coconuts or making our own mineral blocks or breeding boxes.

Update on the Recent Winnipeg Bird Rescue

The Manitoba Canary and Finch Club is pleased to see the safe rescue and care of numerous small birds in Winnipeg. We are grateful to the individuals and organizations who ensured these birds were protected and are now in good hands.

Our club remains committed to supporting new bird owners with education, guidance, and resources to ensure the proper care and well-being of their feathered companions. If you have recently adopted a bird or are considering bird ownership, we encourage you to reach out to us for advice, tips, and support.

Together, we can promote responsible bird stewardship and help every bird thrive in a loving, informed home.

The following article contains heartbreaking information and will affect those with compassionate empathetic hearts.

The MB Canary and Finch Club is aware of a recent incident involving the removal of 70 birds (43 surviving) from a local residence. At this time the public is not being made aware of the specifics involving the case or the bird's owner. The MB Canary and Finch Club consists of members committed to responsible pet ownership. If this case is the result of a health emergency, our sincerest condolences go out to the family and the lives lost.

The article shared requests the public's assistance in donations of CLEAN cages, dishes, perches and other bird accessories to aid them in the temporary care of the bird until they are cleared to be fostered and/or adopted. They are also looking for volunteers to assist in the care of the birds during this time. Please follow the link to apply to volunteer if interested.

*EDIT: Channel 5 - 1130pm confirmed the bird owner passed away.
