The value of a scholarship is based on the "A" grades (80%+) that a student receives at the end of each year in Grades 7 through 12 (S4), in Inner Winnipeg schools. As the Education Fund grows, the focus will expand to provide scholarships to cover a student's entire first-year tuition fees. Ultimately, the goal is to provide scholarships that will carry a student throughout their und

Meet Klymentii Hyrshylo, a proud 2025 Westland Scholar. He graduated from Gordon Bell High School and is now studying Finance at the University of Manitoba’s Asper School of Business.

Enrolling in post-secondary education was not easy for Klymentii. After moving from Ukraine to Winnipeg, he stepped into a completely new life. But his focus on pursuing post-secondary education never changed. During the day, he attended school in Winnipeg, and in the evenings, he continued his studies online with his school in the Ukraine. Two schools over different time zones, and long, exhausting days – but he kept showing up.

That determination carried into his summer holidays, where he worked as a lifeguard, saving what he could toward his education. For Klymentii, this journey has always been about more than a degree – it’s about building a future for his family and setting an example for his younger brother.

But determination alone isn’t always enough.

That’s where YOU play a major role in the lives of inner-Winnipeg students who dream of pursuing post-secondary education.

Through the Westland Foundation, your support helped ease the financial pressure he was carrying and allowed him to stay focused on his education. It showed him that his effort matters and that someone believes in what he’s working toward.

Today, Klymentii is working toward his goal of becoming an investment banker, with plans to support his family and give back to the community that supported him.

Kaila Namit’s goal has always been clear. A graduate of Daniel McIntyre Collegiate Institute and a proud Westland Scholar, Kaila was inspired to become a nurse at a young age. Her mother and older sister, who both work in healthcare, and her father fully support her dream of pursuing nursing.

Today, she’s in her fourth year of the nursing program at the University of Manitoba, gaining real-world experience and building a future where she can care for others while creating stability for herself.

But the journey hasn’t been easy.

For her parents, supporting two children in nursing – one of the more demanding programs –came with real financial pressure. Like many immigrant families, Kaila’s parents are balancing multiple responsibilities, including supporting loved ones back home.

“The Westland Foundation Education Fund is massive financial aid,” Kaila shares. “With my accelerated program, it’s more difficult to work while in school. Although my family helps with tuition, it’s hard for them to manage everything. Westland’s scholarship support not only helps financially, but it also relieves the mental stress of my semester fees.”

For Kaila, this support means more than just covering costs – it means being able to focus, to keep going, and to believe in what’s possible.

🎓Westland Foundation Scholarship applications open June 1–30, 2026 for inner-Winnipeg students graduating in 2026–27.

Empowering inner-Winnipeg youth is at the heart of what we do. The Westland Foundation Education Fund (WFEF) supports students who aspire to pursue post-secondary education at the University of Winnipeg, the University of Manitoba, and RRC Polytech.

This scholarship opportunity is a pathway to a future, students build through their own efforts. Academic performance from Grade 7 to Grade 12 contributes to Westland Foundation Education Fund scholarship eligibility, recognizing the dedication and hard work students put in throughout high school.

Scholarship applications are now open for the Westland Foundation Education Fund 🎓

This scholarship supports inner-Winnipeg students in taking the next step toward post-secondary education. It is available to students attending eligible inner-Winnipeg high schools within the defined boundaries (see website for details), regardless of socio-economic background for eligibility.

Important: Applicants must enroll full-time (minimum 24 credit hours) at one of the following post-secondary institutions:
– University of Winnipeg (UW)
– University of Manitoba (UM)
– RRC Polytech
