Wondering about the Bridging the Future Series?

This series is for students in a Winnipeg High School with an intellectual disability and their parents/caregivers as they explore the journey during and beyond high school!

The series offers opportunities to meet peers and explore what it means to take a person-centred approach to your own life and future.

In collaboration with Mary LaPage Leclerc from RETSD, join us for a Virtual Meet & Greet!

You do not need to be part of RETSD to attend, but you do need to be attending a Winnipeg high school.

The Arts Access Project will introduce arts practice to participants who live with support from New Directions and staff, provide training, experience and professional development for artists with this demographic, September 1, 2026 to August 31, 2027.
Arts Inclusion has worked with Crescent Arts Centre to create unique and long-standing programs dedicated to enriching the lives of people with intellectual disabilities. Participants develop capacity in dance, musical theatre, creative drama, improv, and visual arts. These artistic experiences enhance quality of life, foster independence, nurture hidden abilities, build skills, enhance communication and social networks.
Arts Inclusion creates programs, not based in Art Therapy, but focused on making arts practice accessible to all and service workers, siblings or caregivers get to join in.
Through the use of colour, sound or movement, everyone can find ways to communicate and connect.
This Arts Access Project will provide training and practice for professional artists to facilitate art-making for adults with intellectual disabilities. Our approach will remain flexible as we consider different art forms that interest participants. We will meet with service agency supervisors and staff to clarify agency and participant needs and to understand where arts outreach could be beneficial to their clients. We will also meet with artists to explore how to adapt their approaches to teaching. The artists will do Adult Services Orientations before the programs start.
Arts Access will develop an evaluation plan with our partners that will document, assess and make recommendations to establish artist participation in the service sector. The goal of the project is to spark innovative artwork, educate the public to the value of the arts for this population, augment communication skills, increase accessibility, reduce loneliness and create an environment that supports relationships.

The University of Manitoba is looking for adults with cognitive disabilities who have experienced technology-based financial scams or fraud to participate in a research study.
You may be eligible if you:
✅ Are 18-65 years old
✅ Live in Manitoba
✅ Have a cognitive disability (including challenges with memory, learning, attention, decision-making, communication, or thinking)
✅ Have experienced an online, phone, or internet scam or fraud
Examples include:
• Romance scams
• Fake investments
• Lottery or prize scams
• Identity theft
Participants will take part in 3-4 one-on-one meetings (online or in person in Winnipeg) and will receive a gift card in appreciation for their time.

The University of Manitoba is inviting people who need to develop their online banking skills to participate in a workshop where you can learn and practice basic online banking tasks in a risk-free environment. This is part of a study at the University of Manitoba to evaluate a practice tool called BankBox that simulates the interfaces of the big five Canadian banks, with the goal of building confidence and skills in online banking. No real money is involved, and we will not ask you for any personal banking information. Those who would like to attend must be 18 years of age or older, can communicate (read/write) in English, and have basic computer skills (e.g., can use a keyboard, mouse, and browser). Workshop space is limited, please RSVP by emailing [email protected].

Bill and Helen Norrie Library 19 August (Wednesday), 1 - 3 PM

If you are joining us today for Inclusion Night at the Cargo Bar Assiniboine Park, here are a few tips on how to get there!

Cargo Bar is located on Assiniboine Park Drive Next to the Qualico Duck Pond, across from the Bridge to Portage Avenue. On map Cargo Bar is the Purple F.

Parking:
There is some parking along Assiniboine Park Drive.
There is also parking in the Zoo Special Events Entrance Lot on Zoo Drive.

Winnipeg Transit:
1. The BLUE bus on Portage the park stop is Overdale St coming from East or West (the stop is near Sargent Sundae) Then cross the Assiniboine Park Foot bridge, Cargo Bar will be to the right.
2. On Roblin the D19 and 70 both stop at Shaftsbury Blvd coming from East or West. Enter the park through Diversity Drive and continue past the Pavillion and Lyric Stage Field.

Washrooms:
There are washrooms at the picnic pavillion next to the Cargo Bar.

We will be keeping up to date on changes to the weather and will update on our social media if needed.
