Our journey started three years ago when, after the loss of our family dog Dakotah, we began looking at local rescues to adopt. We came across HSH Greyhound rescue and, upon meeting a house full of the best kept secret in the dog world, made the decision to adopt. Gracie, still a month shy of her second birthday, left the racetracks of Florida to join our family in May 2012 and changed our lives f
orever! Since that time we have had 4 additional greyhounds come into our home and hearts, sadly having to say goodbye to 2 of them due to sudden Renal failure in our young boy Sparton and Cancer in our sweet girl Olivia. We are currently blessed to be loved by Gracie, DJ and Red. As we came to love these dogs we spent time learning more of the plight they have suffered at the hands of the trainers who care only to profit from them, and to our horror we found that there were even more atrocious things happening to their relatives overseas. Our hearts were touched by the story of the Galgo, and we could not turn away from what we were seeing. To our delight we discovered that it was possible to adopt through the amazing rescues working day in and out to save and rehabilitate the 1000s of abandoned Galgos living on the streets of Spain, and so the dream to bring some of these dogs into loving forever homes in Canada began. Our first Galgo Paco was already a Canadian when he came to us at the end of February 2015. He had been brought in from 112 in Spain by NSGA the year before. He immediately stole our hearts with his playful ways and 'hugs'. This April, after months of planning, our dream to bring Galgos to Canada became a reality when we were able to bring Caco, Navi and Sancho to Winnipeg from FBM in Spain. So what comes next? Our goals now are to bring awareness to Canadians about the plight of the Galgo in Spain. There will be some great fundraisers planned! And hopefully this fall there will be adopters in place and we can facilitate bringing more Galgos into loving forever homes right here in our City!
