Goals & Objectives
•To be a support group for parents, caregivers and families of children with Down Syndrome.
•To build and maintain a communications network from which members can access current, comprehensive information and the latest developments.

•To develop support services and projects which benefit individuals with Down syndrome.
•To provide an opportunity for individuals with Down syndrome to express their views and
concerns and to participate in the direction of the Society.

That's why MDSS offers the Bridge to Access program — financial assistance and accessible pricing to make sure that every individual with Down syndrome and their family can participate in our programs and events, regardless of income.

If the cost of an MDSS program or event has ever felt out of reach, this program is for you. We're here to help — quietly, confidentially, and without judgment.

Here's what you should know:

📋 Eligibility is based on Statistics Canada's Low Income Cut-Off (LICO-AT) measure

💛 Calling all active MDSS members outside of Winnipeg — this one's for you!

We know that many of our programs and events are centred in Winnipeg, and that can make it hard for families across the rest of Manitoba to access the same opportunities. The MDSS Local Champions Fund was created to help change that.

Active MDSS members can apply for up to $500 to bring sport and physical activity opportunities to their own community — on their own terms, responding to local needs. 🏅

Here are just a few ideas of what you could do with the fund:
🏃 Organize a fun sports day or mini-Olympics
🧘 Host a yoga, dance, or movement class
🚴 Plan a group walk, bike ride, or swimming outing
🎉 Host a World Down Syndrome Day celebration in your community

Applications are reviewed monthly — so there's no wrong time to apply!

Making summer plans to keep the kids busy? You're invited to MDSS Family Day at the Manitoba Children's Museum!

We're inviting MDSS families for an exclusive afternoon of play, exploration, and connection at one of Winnipeg's most beloved spots for kids. 🏛️✨

This event is open to MDSS families with children and youth up to age 17. (The museum's exhibits are designed with kids ages 1–10 in mind — perfect for little explorers! 🔍) All children must be accompanied by an adult.

♿ This week is National AccessAbility Week (May 31 – June 6) — and we're proud to celebrate! 🇨🇦

This year's theme is Building a Strong, Accessible Canada. Real progress happens when all of us take action to remove barriers and build a more inclusive world.

At MDSS, that's what we show up for every day. Since 1997, our See Me Beautiful Conference has brought together parents, teachers, and educational assistants from across Manitoba to strengthen support systems for students with Down syndrome — because inclusive education is accessible education.

There is still so much more to do. We're committed to doing it together. 💛
