✨ September is Dystonia Awareness Month ✨

Dystonia is a chronic neurological movement disorder that causes involuntary muscle contractions, abnormal postures, and repetitive movements. It affects more than 50,000 people across Canada.

For some individuals, there is a link between antipsychotic medications and the onset or worsening of dystonia. In addition, many people living with this condition also experience anxiety and depression, which adds to the challenges of daily life.

By raising awareness, we can help break stigma, encourage earlier diagnoses, and support better treatments for those impacted.

To learn more, please visit the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation Canada website.

πŸ’™ Awareness creates understanding. Understanding creates change.

Recovery is not a single moment or a destination. It is a journey of healing, growth, setbacks, resilience, and new beginnings. Every person's path is unique, but one thing remains true: recovery is possible.

Today we honour all who are on the recovery journey. By speaking openly about recovery, we help reduce stigma and create communities where people feel supported, valued, and empowered.

Thank you to everyone who continues to advocate for understanding, compassion, and the belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to build the life they want.

πŸ’™ "Whatever the reason, I came to the realization that I'd earned my way here and that I had the right to chase my dreams. That even I deserved a second chance."

Tomorrow is National Grief Awareness Day, a day to recognize the many ways grief can show up in our lives and to remind one another that no one has to carry it alone.

Grief is often associated with the loss of a loved one, but it can also follow the end of a relationship, the loss of a job, changes in health, friendships, life transitions, and so much more. Every grief journey is unique, and there is no right or wrong way to grieve.

At Peer Connections Manitoba, we believe healing happens through connection. That's why we offer a free, in-person Grief Support Group every Tuesday at our downtown office.

This group welcomes anyone who is processing any type of grief at any stage of their journey. Grief can be complicated, but you don't have to navigate it alone.

πŸ’œ No registration required.

THANK YOU! πŸ’™

To everyone who purchased a ticket, donated a prize, shared our fundraiser, or cheered us on, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

The love and support we receive from our community make our work possible. We are incredibly grateful to the individuals, businesses, and organizations that partnered with us to help bring exciting experiences to Manitobans while supporting Peer Connections Manitoba's mission.

A special thank you to Calm Air, Frontier North Adventures, and Sea North Tours for making this unforgettable Churchill experience possible. Your generosity helped create lasting memories while supporting mental health and recovery in our community.

Because of your generosity, this fundraiser was about more than the chance to win a trip. Every ticket purchased helps Peer Connections Manitoba continue fostering hope, connection, and recovery through peer support and mental health education.

Your support allows us to grow our programs, expand our reach, and continue walking alongside Manitobans on their recovery journeys.

Thank you for believing in our work and helping us strengthen mental health support across Manitoba.

Together, we're building a stronger, more connected community.

At Peer Connections Manitoba, we believe that recovery is built through connection, understanding, and hope.

We're grateful to Kent for sharing his experience:

"Meeting Teddy from Peer Connections Manitoba changed everything for me. I was sitting in the hospital feeling like I had run out of options. All I could picture were expensive rehab centres that felt completely out of reach for someone like me. Teddy sat down beside me and spoke to me like a real person who had been where I was. He helped me see that recovery was possible and that I did not have to do it alone. That single conversation got the ball rolling for me. It gave me hope at a time when I had none. I am truly grateful for that moment and for the support Peer Connections Manitoba offers."

β€” Kent Riddell

Peer support is about meeting people where they are, sharing lived experiences, and helping others see that they don't have to face challenges alone.

Thank you, Kent, for trusting us with your story. πŸ’™
