Monique Levesque-Pharoah and Adriana Rajcher hosted the Youth in Philanthropy Committee Members Elijah, Gabriel, Landon and Oliver from Oak Park High School and were so pleased to receive $1,250 to go towards Project Semi Colon and Training. Thank you, Committee for considering Peer Connections Manitoba and thank you for providing the opportunity for youth to participate in their communities.

On May 26th, Kitana Degen, Peer Support Manager, had the wonderful pleasure and honour to attend the Youth in Philanthropy (YIP) gala hosted by the Winnipeg Foundation. Here is Kitana’s reflection of the evening:

“I got to hear speakers from the young individuals that are making a difference in our community to the leaders of the organizations and agencies that the program is helping with their generosity. I was excited to see so many young people involved in this selfless work as well as the number of schools (28 to be exact) that participated. It is heartwarming to know how many folks will be helped with their caring work, not just our peers here at Peer Connections Manitoba (PCM), but in our greater community.

I sat next to 7 fantastic students from Oak Park High School who chose PCM as one of the recipients of their gifts. It was a pleasure to connect with the committee members and to be able to thank each and every one of them for the work that they put in and for choosing us. One of which was a young man who I met when the committee members visited PCM's main office.

To be honest, I did not know that this program existed and I am glad that I know now. As a parent myself, I couldn't help but feel so proud of these young folks who are not only helping change the future of the individuals in their community needing help, for the better, but also their own. I was happy to hear that this program from the Winnipeg Foundation has been enriching our community for the last 27 years. I will definitely encourage my young son to be involved in this kind of philanthropy work. Who knows, he might even be a YIP'er someday?

Thank you, Oak Park School's YIP committee, for this wonderful opportunity. The future is not only bright because of your contributions, but I know that it will be filled with care, compassion, and generosity, knowing you are all leading the way. Keep up the great work and I wish you all the very best in your future adventures!”

Day One of Canada’s Fundraising Conference did not disappoint. From the moment I received the welcome bag, complete with Tammy Zonker’s Calling All Heroes, it set the tone for what was to come.

It was energizing to connect with fundraisers, or better yet, heroes, from across Canada who share such passion for their causes and the work they do every day. The sessions led by Angel Benedict, Janine Foote, and Jennifer Collins were nothing short of spectacular, offering insights I am already excited to put into practice.

The day wrapped up with an inspiring panel featuring Celeste Blackmore and Owen Charters, leaving me feeling motivated and proud to be part of this incredible community.

Sharing my experience as Director of Development at Peer Connections Manitoba reminds me how lucky I am to be part of an organization where sharing and vulnerability are part of everyday life.

National Indigenous History Month and National Indigenous Peoples Day invite us to reflect, learn, and celebrate the cultures and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples.

At Peer Connections Manitoba, the core of our work is peer support. Lived experience creates connection, inspires hope, and fosters resilience. These principles reflect the importance of community and shared understanding that have existed in Indigenous cultures for generations.

Together, we continue to build spaces of respect, healing, and belonging.

There is still time to make a meaningful impact this Mental Health Awareness Month.

As part of the final push, Birchwood Automotive Group continues to match every $20.00 Text-To-Donate support to Peer Connections Manitoba through the Mobile Giving Foundation, up to a total of $2,500. Your $20.00 becomes $40.00 and funds one full community peer support session for someone who needs it.

Mental health challenges do not follow one path, and no one should face them alone. If you are struggling, remember you are not alone. Quick access peer support is now available on Saturdays.

Visit peerconnectionsmb.ca to learn more.

Text PEER to 45678 before the end of May and help keep peer support accessible across Manitoba.

Our team at Peer Connections Manitoba is still thinking about the energy from last week’s Power of Peer Support conference presented by Mental Health Innovations.

Julia Hoeppner and Adam Milne shared their real-world experience implementing peer support in clinical settings, from a lived experience organization perspective—what’s working and what we’re learning along the way.

We were proud to present alongside Brad Glynn, Sarah White and Jocelyn Baker Dunn from Lifewise who are leading similar work in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Peer support is growing, and partnerships like this matter. Excited to keep building, learning, and pushing this work forward together.

What an inspiring day at Horace Avenue with Julia Hoeppner, celebrating the incredible impact of The Bell for Better Team Giving Program in our community.

It was a pleasure connecting with Dianne Chabluk, Brenda Ezekiel, Donna Poitras, Dave Robins, and Joan Young, just a few of the dedicated volunteers who gave their time to Peer Connections Manitoba. Their efforts are helping reduce wait times for free and confidential peer support, making a real difference for Manitobans who rely on these services for their mental health.

Together, these collective efforts helped generate an incredible $33,000 for PCM. Julia was able to share how we are continuing to expand access by opening our doors on Saturdays for quick access support.

Behind the camera and behind all the action? Jo-Anne Pelzer who is instrumental in organizing, submitting hours and connecting with the community at large.

Thank you Jo-Anne, Bell for Better Team Giving Program, and the volunteers who make it happen.
