HEROS Hockey is helping kids in Winnipeg’s North End get on the ice, many for the first time.

The free program provides equipment, transportation, ice time, and mentorship, while creating a welcoming space where young people can learn, make friends, and build confidence.

For more than 20 years, the team behind Manito Ahbee Festival has worked to bring people together through Indigenous art, culture, ceremony, and community.

Along the way, they’ve created opportunities for artists, mentored young people, and built a festival that continues to grow from one generation to the next.

A Winnipeg Foundation Multi-Year Grant is helping Manito Ahbee plan ahead and spend more time developing and delivering the festival.

Your experience and perspective can help shape how we support our community.

Winnipeg Foundation is looking for volunteers to join our new Community Grants Advisory Committee.

Members will bring community knowledge, lived experience and different perspectives to discussions about grantmaking and the needs and opportunities facing Winnipeg.

We welcome applications from people with a range of backgrounds and experiences. You do not need to meet every qualification to apply.

The committee will meet approximately three times a year, either in person or virtually.

“You don’t just do it once a week.”

For Winnipeg teacher Michelle Gougeon, bringing Indigenous perspectives into the classroom isn’t something separate from the curriculum. It’s part of everyday learning.

She’s one of about 300 Winnipeg educators participating in the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund’s Legacy Schools Program. Students are learning through Secret Path, community walks, murals, and visits to places connected to the history of residential schools.

Today, the program reaches 7,425 students across 209 Winnipeg schools.

On National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we honour Survivors of residential schools, the children who never returned home, and the families and communities whose lives continue to be impacted.

We’re pleased to support Norwest Co-op Community Food Centre’s Urban Farm through a Winnipeg Foundation Community Grant, helping create a gathering space with a fire pit and compost area.

The revitalized garden will provide space to grow vegetables and traditional medicines, including sage, cedar, to***co, and sweetgrass. It will also give neighbours a welcoming place to gather outdoors, connect with one another, and access healthy food.

The Winnipeg Foundation Community Grant was instrumental in our fundraising efforts to deal with the impacted area on our Urban Farm next to Billy Mosienko Arena. Without this grant the Gathering Space with firepit and compost area would not have been possible.

We’re glad to support L'Arche Winnipeg with a $35,000 Community Grant toward an essential roof replacement at its community hub.

This space brings staff and Core Members together for meetings, connection, and everyday support. Through our granting programs, we support charitable organizations across Winnipeg as they respond to the needs of our community.
