Our readings for this Sunday hit us hard, right at the start, with an uncompromising demand that flies straight in the face of the encroaching shape of the political and social order in our day. “You shall not wrong or oppress a resident alien…” In the Gospel, Jesus extends the commandment from the Torah, “Love God with all your heart…,” to “Love your neighbour as yourself.”

Explore Jesus’ teaching on giving to Caesar, the cost of discipleship, and the importance of faith, conscience, and defending human dignity.

From Sr. Claudia Stecker:

Since beginning ministry in the area of human trafficking, the Stop Trafficking! newsletter has made its way to my inbox on a monthly basis, and I always find some new learning there.

Discover how the Stop Trafficking! newsletter, founded by Sr. Jean Schafer, promotes awareness, advocacy and action to combat human trafficking.

In first-century Palestine, colonized by the powerful and brutal Roman Empire, the inhabitants were required to pay taxes to the Emperor. You needed to secure special Roman currency to do it, not the shekels or talents we hear of when a local transaction is mentioned, but a denarius. A Roman denarius.

Explore Jesus’ teaching on giving to Caesar, the cost of discipleship, and the importance of faith, conscience, and defending human dignity.

From Sr. Petite Lao:

In 2027, we will celebrate 40 years of being with the Menubu Dulangan people in Kulaman, Sultan Kudarat. Forty years is a long time. It is a time to celebrate and give thanks, but also a good time to stop and ask: What has our presence meant for the people? What has been good? And where might we have caused harm, even when we meant well?

The RNDM Sisters mark 40 years with the Menubu Dulangan people in the Philippines and reflect on mission, Indigenous culture, spirituality, and mutual learning.

From Sr. Veronica Dunne:

I wrote this poem around 1993, and it was published in that same year under the title “RNDM Poetry”. Sr. June Lenzen was the editor. It was part of a centennial celebration to commemorate the death of Euphrasie Barbier, who founded the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions (RNDM). Many RNDMs from around the world, many now deceased, contributed to this volume.

I wrote this poem around 1993, and it was published in that same year under the title “RNDM Poetry”. Sr. June Lenzen was the editor.

From today's reflection by Susan K. Roll:

Allegory: an exercise in interpretation that may well leave you wondering, “Is that what it’s supposed to mean?” The story Jesus tells in our Gospel reading for today is just dripping with allegory. But there’s a surface parable (what it looks like the story is saying, at first glance) and a deeper level.

A reflection on Jesus’ parable of the vineyard, the challenge of religious institutions, and what the Church may need to hold on to—or let go of.

Here, on the Canadian Prairies, climate scientists are predicting a warmer winter with less snow and a hotter, drier summer in 2027. What can we do now and in the coming months to prepare our gardens and offer the best environment for all the plants and animals we are helping to support?

Preparing for a changing climate means caring for the whole garden ecosystem. Here are some practical ways to support soil, plants and wildlife through winter, heat and drought.
