MAIN STAGE OPENER: Stravinsky Stories (October 8 - 11)

The main stage season opens with a thrilling double bill celebrating the genius of Igor Stravinsky, one of the 20th century’s most innovative composers. The Fairy’s Kiss, choreographed by internationally acclaimed Alexei Ratmansky, brings a contemporary perspective to Stravinsky’s enchanting music, blending precision, elegance, and drama. Complementing it is a bold, fresh interpretation of Firebird, choreographed by rising talent Houston Thomas.

Tickets start at $40, only at rwb.org or see the link in our bio.

We were happy to have choreographer Houston Thomas join us in the studio refining Firebird for our main stage season opener Stravinsky Stories.

A classic story set in the modern corporate world, 's bold interpretation of Firebird examines themes of power, freedom, conformity, and individuality, and asks what it truly means to break free from the systems that define us. This contemporary reimagining celebrates the enduring power of courage, compassion, and human connection, and it's all set to Stravinsky's iconic score.

Get your tickets today to see it in its full form.

The RWB is deeply saddened to hear about the recent passing of beloved costume designer Sandra Woodall.

A true visionary driven by curiosity and imagination, Sandra was one of the most influential artists in the dance community. The RWB was one of many lucky ballet companies to work with Sandra when she created the designs for one of our most popular productions, Val Caniparoli's A Story. She brought life to the characters in a way no one else could, and we're incredibly grateful to have had a piece of her whimsy and creativity grace our stage.

In the words of , who has known her since he was 12 years old and worked with her on productions with the Oregon Ballet Theatre and Hong Kong Ballet, she was a creative genius and one of the most dedicated artists he's ever had the pleasure of working with.

"We won't see her kind again❤️"

Her presence will be missed, but her incredible impact on the dance community will live on.

Due to the combination of continued high temperatures and the damage sustained to the site during last night's storm, we have made the difficult decision to cancel tonight's Ballet in the Park performance at the Lyric Theatre in Assiniboine Park.

We know this is disappointing, and we're incredibly grateful for your understanding throughout an exceptionally challenging week of weather.

While we won't be together in the park tonight, we look forward to welcoming you to RWB Revealed, another outdoor event this summer where we're transforming True North Square into a working ballet studio for three days. Join us for free to experience professional dancers in their natural environment through open rehearsals, performances, and behind-the-scenes moments August 19-21.

Tonight's Ballet in the Park performance (Wednesday, July 29) has been cancelled due to unsafe extreme heat.

The safety of our dancers, students, crew, volunteers, and audience is our highest priority. Royal Winnipeg Ballet monitors temperature and humidity directly on stage and follows established safety thresholds. Today's conditions exceed those thresholds, making it unsafe to perform.

We know many of you were looking forward to joining us this evening, and we're deeply disappointed to have to make this decision. Thank you for your understanding as we put the health and safety of everyone involved first.

We look forward to welcoming you to the park tomorrow if conditions allow.
