The Royal Winnipeg Ballet is heartbroken about the passing of Cris Derksen, an extraordinary composer, cellist, and artistic voice in our arts community.

We had the honour of bringing Cris’s music to our stage through many collaborations with Cameron Fraser-Monroe, including T’əl:Wild Man of the Woods, where Cris performed their work alongside our dancers. Cris’s music carries immense power, emotion, and storytelling, and we are very grateful to have had the opportunity to work with them.

We extend our love and condolences to Cris’s family, friends, community, collaborators, and all those mourning this tremendous loss. We also want to send our love to Cris’s wife, Bobby, and wish her a full recovery.

We're excited to share that after 30 years as the Royal Winnipeg Ballet's Artistic Director, André Lewis has been honoured with the title of Artistic Director Emeritus.

André's tenure with the RWB dates back to 1975, where he started as a dancer in the School's Professional Division. After joining the Company as a Corps de Ballet member and growing into a Soloist, he became the RWB's Artistic Director in 1996.

In 2025, he celebrated 50 years of service with the RWB, showing how incredibly deserved this recognition is. We want to congratulate André for this honour and thank him for being a driving force behind innovative works and classical recreations at the RWB.
