Today, the Manitoba Dental Foundation joins people across Canada in observing the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

We honour the children who never returned home, the Survivors of residential schools, and their families and communities.

As an organization dedicated to improving oral health for underserved and vulnerable people of all ages, we recognize the importance of listening, learning and understanding the barriers that continue to affect Indigenous communities.

We believe everyone deserves the opportunity for a healthy smile, supported by care grounded in respect, dignity and inclusion.

This month, we’re featuring a previous recipient of MDF funding—AboutFace Canada. AboutFace, The Craniofacial Family Society works to eliminate the stigma and discrimination experienced by people with facial differences.

🦷 Healthy Smiles at Every Age

Advances in oral health prevention and treatment mean many seniors will retain more of their natural teeth as they age. Maintaining good oral health throughout life can support eating, speaking, self-esteem and overall well-being.

For older adults living in long-term care or relying on others for assistance, barriers such as mobility, transportation and difficulty communicating oral pain can make care harder to access.

Improving oral health for long-term care populations is one of the Manitoba Dental Foundation’s primary objectives—because everyone deserves the opportunity for a healthy smile at every stage of life.

A Great Day on the Red In Support of Oral Health

On September 10, sixteen fishers enjoyed a memorable morning on the Red River fishing for catfish in support of the Manitoba Dental Foundation.

The day began with breakfast from Roxie’s on the Red, followed by a morning on the water with boats, guides and fishing gear provided by Blackwater Catfishing. Afterward, participants enjoyed a delicious brisket lunch with sides from Danny’s Whole Hog.

Awards were presented for:
* Most catfish caught: 46
* Fewest caught: 16

Together, we raised $5,000 for the Manitoba Dental Foundation.

This annual fundraiser is a guaranteed fun time. We thank everyone who participated and continues to generously support our Foundation.

🦷 Join the MDF Millennium Club

The Manitoba Dental Foundation is inviting Manitoba dentists to help create healthier smiles and brighter futures for Manitobans in need.

The Millennium Club’s goal is to bring together 100 dentists, each contributing $1,000 to support MDF grants for organizations improving oral health among underserved, unhoused and vulnerable Manitobans.

Already, 35 dentists have joined during the campaign’s quiet phase. Contributions can be made through monthly donations or as a one-time gift.

🦷 Healthy Habits Start with the Basics

Brushing and flossing are part of a healthy daily rhythm, but not everyone has reliable access to the oral health essentials needed to maintain that routine.

Through the Manitoba Dental Foundation’s Closing the Gap program, 1,200 oral health kits are being distributed across the province with support from Crest Oral-B Canada and community partners.

Each kit contains simple but essential items, including a toothbrush, toothpaste and floss—small tools that can make a meaningful difference in supporting long-term oral health.

Together, we can help put the basics for a healthier smile within reach.
