INTERNATIONAL OVERDOSE AWARENESS DAY POSTER CONTEST

Make a difference this International Overdose Awareness Day!

International Overdose Awareness Day takes place yearly on August 31 and is a day to remember those we have lost to substance poisoning and acknowledge the grief of those they left behind. This year’s theme is “Recognizing those people who go unseen,” which is meant to acknowledge those affected by overdose that may not be recognized during times of crisis.

We want your help to raise awareness on this day! The Southern Chiefs’ Organization (SCO) is holding a poster contest for youth aged 15-30 to make a poster that will be used to promote harm reduction, land-based healing, and International Overdose Awareness Day.

For poster contest rules, visit: scoinc.mb.ca/postercontest2023

SCO’s Harm Reduction Program was launched earlier this year to promote harm reduction practices that aim to keep loved ones who are impacted by substance use safe, while offering love and support, minimizing the harms associated with substance use, and supporting them on their healing journeys. 🎉 Let's give it up for our very own Jaiden Roberts! Your hard work and dedication have paid off, and we couldn't be more proud! 👏🏼

TELLING OUR HISTORY THROUGH ARCHITECTURE 🪶📜

Treaty One proudly celebrates Jaiden Roberts, an extraordinary individual representing our Nations and her home community of Roseau River Anishinabe First Nation. Jaiden is an architecture and Indigenous Studies student at Carleton University (Official) and currently works at Smoke Architecture as a student designer. Through her work, she envisions a future where Indigenous communities benefit from architectural practices. She strives to incorporate her Indigeneity into the field, creating spaces that honour and uplift Indigenous culture. Jaiden was also an intern with the Treaty One design team in earlier years and was a tremendous asset to have on our team.

We commend Jaiden for her unwavering commitment to her dreams. She is an inspiration to us all we are proud to know Jaiden Roberts one of our own, representing our Treaty No. 1 First Nations with grace and passion. Her achievements give us great hope for a better future.
