Did you hear....Manitoba has officially canceled seasonal clock changes and is adopting permanent Daylight Saving Time (DST) year-round, meaning clocks will not fall back on November 1, 2026.

Navigating the roads at night requires extra focus. Here are a few quick tips to keep your vision sharp and your drive secure:
• Clean your windshield: Smudges inside and out cause blinding glare from oncoming headlights.
• Dim your dashboard: Bright interior lights make it harder for your eyes to adjust to the dark road ahead.
• Look away from bright high beams: Glance toward the right edge of your lane to avoid being temporarily blinded.
• Keep your eyes moving: Scan the road constantly to spot movement, pedestrians, or wildlife early.
Stay alert and arrive safely!

Some everyday habits can support healthy eyes.
Taking regular breaks from close-up screen activities, spending time outdoors, wearing appropriate eye protection when needed, and protecting your eyes from excessive ultraviolet exposure are all simple ways to make eye health part of your daily routine.
Healthy habits don’t have to be complicated.
Small choices, repeated regularly, can contribute to taking good care of your eyes.

Vision can change gradually, and sometimes we don’t notice the difference right away.
Small vision changes can become part of our everyday routine, making them easy to overlook. That’s one reason routine eye examinations are an important part of staying informed about your eye health.
Whether you’re a student, working adult, parent, senior, or somewhere in between, paying attention to changes in your vision is part of taking care of yourself.

Eye health matters at every age.
Children are learning and developing. Adults are working, driving, and staying active. Older adults may experience changes in vision or eye health as part of getting older.
Our eye health needs can change throughout life, which is why regular eye care is important at every stage.
Making eye health part of your overall health routine can help you stay informed about your vision and your eyes.

Our eyes are part of our overall health.
Good eye health can support how we learn, work, move through the world, and stay connected with the people around us. Just like other aspects of our health, caring for our eyes is something we can do throughout every stage of life.
Regular eye examinations can help assess vision and identify certain eye health concerns, sometimes before noticeable symptoms appear.
This October, we’re highlighting an important reminder: eye health is health.

A new school year can bring a lot of changes for children.
A consistent sleep schedule, time outdoors, healthy routines and appropriate eye care can all contribute to their overall well-being as they settle back into school.
Take the opportunity this September to check in on how your child is seeing, learning and feeling.
Small steps can help make the transition back to school a positive one.

Today on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we pause to reflect on our responsibility as a healthcare providers and allies.

We cannot achieve true health equity without acknowledging the "truth" first. The history and ongoing legacy of the residential school system—along with systemic racism and colonial practices—have created deep disparities and a profound lack of trust within our medical systems.

Reconciliation in healthcare is about more than just a single day or wearing an orange shirt. It requires continuous action 365 days a year. As medical professionals, our commitment to allyship means:
- Actively listening to and amplifying Indigenous voices, patients, and leaders.
- Undertaking ongoing cultural humility and safety education to confront my own unconscious biases.
- Pledging to provide a practice where First Nations, Inuit, and Métis patients feel respected, heard, and safe from discrimination.

We stand in solidarity with survivors, their families, and the children who never returned home. Every child matters.

Back-to-school routines aren't only about homework.
Time outdoors gives children an opportunity to use their vision in different ways while being active and engaged with their surroundings.
Building outdoor activity into the day can be a positive part of a child's overall health and wellness routine.
A healthy balance between learning, screen use, rest and outdoor play supports the whole child.

Between buying school supplies, organizing backpacks and getting back into routines, eye care can easily be overlooked.
An eye examination is different from a school vision screening. An optometrist can assess vision and eye health in greater detail and identify vision issues that may not be obvious in everyday activities.
Ask your optometrist how often your child should have their eyes examined based on their individual needs.
