Today we had the honour of introducing Premier Wab Kinew to the House of Peace! The neighbours were so proud to introduce themselves as new Manitobans and show him their beautiful home. He was joined by longtime House of Peace friend, Minister Asagwara.

The Neighbours shared stories of their journey and what it means to them to live in the safety of the House of Peace. Premier Kinew listened with empathy and responded with compassion. He spoke to the humanity and dignity that he witnessed in our home. The Neighbours were all so moved when he told them the meaning of ‘Manitoba’- God lives here…❤️ and ended our lunch together offering a blessing in Ojibway. We’re so glad the Premier got to see this small, inconspicuous refuge, just down the road from his office, where quiet, life-changing work is happening in the lives of these newcomer women, who now call Manitoba home.

We recently celebrated national volunteers week at the House of Peace. Volunteers are the heartbeat of Holy Names House of Peace. Ours is a volunteer community of deeply devoted, service-driven people, that come together to keep the mission of justice, compassion, and hope alive.

You are a gift!

You have each so generously and without hesitation shared your skills, expertise, time, and endless support with the House of Peace. Your loving fingerprint is throughout this home, and it rests on the heart of each one who walks through these doors.

We simply wouldn’t be who we are without the loving volunteer community that breathes life to our work. For this, we are deeply and sincerely grateful. Thank you for choosing to stand in solidarity with the mission of the House of Peace, the women who call it home, and our greater downtown community who finds refuge in our sacred space.

To our wonderful neighbours at the RBC Convention Centre – thank you for choosing your little neighbour next door, the Holy Names House of Peace, to be the lucky recipients of your workplace donation drive. Your team came in with trollies full of clothing, food, feminine hygiene products, household goods and linens for the women living at the House of Peace. Thank you to St. Marys Academy for inviting the House of Peace to participate in their Human Rights Evening last night.

What a powerful evening where stories were shared from women around the world who have experienced unimaginable human rights violations. Now more than ever, our world and humanity is at a tipping point with how we value human life and treat each other as human beings. Don’t be overwhelmed or intimidated at these monstrous global issues and think there’s nothing you can do. We can be that light of compassion, peace and love, in our own small way, here at home. In your workplace, in your classroom, in your neighbourhood, in your home– be that beacon of peace that sets the tone and example for how we ought to be to each other. We must not be complacent at this pivotal time in our history.

BE PEACE. BE LIGHT. BE LOVING KINDNESS.

House of Peace was thrilled to join Leadership Winnipeg in their effort to support the North End Women’s Center. Over the past month, both staff and neighbours at HOP donated socks, feminine hygiene products, and other high need items for the NEWC community drop-in centre. The women at the House of Peace have been so blessed by so many- it feels wonderful to pay it forward to another organization supporting women in our community! Keep up the wonderful work NEWC!
