What We Do

We provide a safe, child-friendly and supportive environment where young victims are interviewed as part of a formal investigation into allegations of child abuse. Police, Child and Family Services, and Victim Services come together at Toba Centre for Children & Youth to share information and coordinate roles and responsibilities. The healing process for young victims and their care-givers begins at Toba Centre where they meet with a team of professionals in one child-friendly location. Toba Centre is focused on minimizing stress for children, youth, and families impacted by abuse. Our environment provides a private and comfortable family room and soft interview room where interviews with victims and witnesses of child abuse are conducted. High quality and best practice forensic interviewing is a core service of Toba Centre and critical component in the investigation and prosecution of child abuse cases. Toba Centre has two dedicated forensic interviewer positions that specialize in child forensic interviewing. These positions complement the investigative process through provision of neutral, unbiased and high quality forensic interviewing that support the criminal and child protection proceedings for child abuse cases and avoid multiple interviews. The forensic interviewers work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure that young victims are interviewed in a timely manner and receive support and information to help them move forward.

💙 It Takes a Team!

This , we’re celebrating two valued partners who play an important role in supporting children and families across Manitoba.

Last week, Toba Centre staff Kelsey and Sarah visited our friends at Manitoba First Nations Police Service with some treats to recognize the strong working relationship we share. We’re grateful for their partnership and the essential role they play in supporting the well-being and recovery of children and families.

We also want to extend our thanks to the dedicated medical team at the Child Protection Centre at HSC! This morning, Toba Centre’s CEO dropped off delicious Jenna Rae Cakes Birthday Cake Cans to show our appreciation. 🧁 As a vital part of the wraparound response to child abuse, they help ensure children’s medical needs are met so children and families can focus on healing.

We’re grateful for the commitment, care, and collaboration of both teams. Thank you for the important work you do and for being such valued partners in supporting children and families across Manitoba! 💙

Forensic interviews conducted by Toba Centre’s specially trained forensic interview specialists have increased by 41.7% over the past three years.

Each interview is conducted in a developmentally and culturally sensitive, legally sound, and neutral fact-finding manner—giving children a safe, supportive space to tell their story.

As part of a coordinated response, the forensic interview helps reduce the need for children to repeatedly share what happened, so they can tell their story once and be heard. 💙

💙 Belated Thankful Thursday!

Every Thursday this October, the Toba team will be celebrating partners in our community who are doing amazing work every day for kids.

This week, a big shoutout to the incredible heroes over at the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Manitoba Internet Child Exploitation Unit. We’re grateful for the work they do every day to help protect kids and keep our communities safer.

🧡 Today, we remember. Today, we listen. Today, we reflect.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is a day to honour Survivors of residential schools, the children who never returned home, and the families and communities who continue to carry their stories and impacts.

For us at Toba Centre, this day is a reminder of the importance of listening to children, honouring their voices, and continuing the work of building safer communities.

May today be a time to learn, reflect, and consider how we can each contribute to ongoing reconciliation.
