Just wrapped up a very special trip down the Manigotagan River with .riverwatershedinitiative

The point of this trip was to give tools to Community Members from the Nation's making up the Watershed on Eco-Tourism Operation. Over the four days a lot was discussed around guest relations, guide management, risk mitigation, and more. It was an incredible opportunity that we feel extremely privileged to be part of.

Who has been involved in this proposal process? The short answer: a LOT of people.!🌎

From the beginning, the Alliance has worked to create conversations around this proposal with rights holders, stakeholders, neighbouring communities, governments, and the public.

This process has always been about collaboration, transparency, and making space for people to ask questions and share feedback.

Now it’s your turn. 🌿 TODAY is the LAST day to submit your comments of support at EngageMB.ca and help shape the future of the watershed!

“I’ve worked at the lodge before and after the protected areas were established, and I can say from experience that it has been great for business.”

➡️More clients
➡️Greater investment
➡️A better understanding of the culture and people who are connected to the land

A must-read from Corey Myers, who operates a lodge in the Thaidene Nëné Indigenous Protected Area, on why the Seal River Watershed IPCA will deliver major benefits for everyone in Manitoba (and beyond). Visit the Winnipeg Free Press for the full opinion piece.

Please add your comments of support at EngageMB.ca by Tuesday, June 2nd!

Lodge owners and outfitters are valued contributors to the Seal River Watershed economy, and the Alliance has maintained a dialogue with the operators in our region throughout the feasibility study and negotiations that have led up to this point.

The Seal River Watershed Alliance appreciates the Manitoba Lodges & Outfitters Association’s continued interest and engagement on the Seal River Watershed Protected Area proposal.

The Alliance has welcomed constructive dialogue with MLOA and its members. However, having reviewed MLOA’s Position Statement (May 1, 2026) and several of MLOA’s recent social media posts, we feel it is necessary to address inaccuracies and omissions in the MLOA’s statements that risk misleading your members and the public about what is actually being proposed.

To help clarify those inaccuracies, we sent a letter to the MLOA, please click the link to view the letter.

An important reminder: protecting the Seal River Watershed does not mean ending licensed hunting. 🦌🌿

Hunting is deeply important to our communities and to many people who responsibly use the watershed. Under the proposal, outdoor activities like hunting, fishing, guided outfitting, and ecotourism would continue in the proposed provincial park.

This project is about keeping the watershed healthy, not restricting responsible access to the land and waters.

Show your support for our proposal by visiting EngageMB.ca before June 2nd.
