Harm reduction is often misunderstood, and because of that, people miss its true purpose. In this video, I want to take a moment to clarify what harm reduction really is, why it matters, and how compassion, safety, and the value of human life must remain at the center of how we respond to substance use and relapse.

Harm reduction isn’t about lowering expectations or giving up on recovery, it’s about recognizing the reality of what people are facing and making sure they stay connected, supported, and alive while they work through it. Recovery is a process, not a switch, and people deserve care at every point along that process, not only when they’re doing well. When we approach someone with understanding instead of judgment, we create space for honesty, for trust, and for real change to take root. All conversations are strictly confidential.

This video marks the beginning of a new year and an opportunity to reflect on wellbeing, recovery, and personal growth.
Abiodun Raji, Addiction Counselor at JCFS, speaks about navigating post-holiday stress, understanding the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, and taking gentle, intentional steps toward healthier coping strategies.
Viewers are encouraged to practice self-compassion, recognize that recovery is a journey, and seek support when needed. Recovery is not meant to be done alone. Each day offers a new opportunity to grow, strengthen wellbeing, and support one another. Shalom.

All conversations are strictly confidential.

Starting this week, we’re launching a video series to help our community better understand addiction and the many ways it affects individuals, families, and friends.

Addiction is more common than many realize, and no one has to face it alone. There is help, there is hope, and recovery is possible. JCFS is here to support you every step of the way.

Our first video, Understanding Addiction, features insights from Abiodun Raji, Addiction Counsellor, and offers information and guidance for anyone who may be struggling or supporting a loved one.

All conversations are strictly confidential.

Serenity Shabbat is coming to you for the third consecutive year!

Please join the Community Wide Shabbat Services on Friday, November 28th and Saturday, November 29th.

We aim to reduce stigma within the Jewish Community, support those battling addiction, and connect those challenged with their substance use or other addictions while highlighting some of the resources in the community as well as way to share that no one is ever alone in this journey and that recovery is always possible.

If you have never attended a Shabbat service, this is your perfect opportunity to have this experience. If you have not been to a service in a while, this could be a great time to reconnect.

Serenity Shabbat is a unique spiritual experience, a collection of insights, ideas, prayers, readings, and meditations to create deeper meaning for Shabbat, our seventh day of rest and to nurture a deeper connection to recovery. Each service features a guest speaker sharing their powerful story of hope.

Looking forward to see you and your loved ones in any of the six locations.

Please contact Abi Raji at araji@jcfswinnipeg,org or by phone at 204-477-7430
