BDWF would like to take this opportunity to encourage everyone to reflect, not just today, but every day, on the impacts of residential schools.

Today, we wear orange to honour those who were murdered in residential schools and support the survivors who faced and continue to experience tremendous trauma.

As a group that seeks to promote mental health conversations in high school, we would like to remind students that the impacts of residential schools still affect current students through inter-generational trauma.

Support is available if you or someone you know are experiencing distress. Indigenous Crisis Support Lines are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week:

The Hope for Wellness Help Line offers support for counselling and crisis intervention at 1-855-242-3310.

The National Indian Residential School Crisis Line offers support at 1-866-925-4419.

We encourage students to continue the conversation in their schools and welcome applications to help promote important conversations such as these 🧡

It’s from May 2-8 💚🤍

Let’s spread some love this week, to others and to ourselves ✨

The BDWF team wants to know what you’re doing to be kind to yourself! Are you meeting a friend for coffee, checking in with a family member, going for a walk with your dog, journaling?

Let us know in the comments 💬

We’d also love to hear if your school is doing something to recognize wellness this week 🧠

Take care!

To complement their conversations and events, Rocky the therapy dog was in attendance 🐶 Students loved having Rocky and other dogs from the Winnipeg Humane Society’s Pet Therapy Program in their classrooms over five days.

Hello friends!

How have you been doing? We wanted to check-in and re-introduce what we do!

Our team funds mental health initiatives across Winnipeg high schools. Anything that promotes conversation, spreads joy, encourages wellness or can benefit student morale can potentially be funded through BDWF. Application forms can now be found directly on our website - link in our bio💚

We believe taking some extra time for self-care and the little things that bring us joy is especially important in the winter months and we wanted to share what has been bringing us joy over the last few weeks!

Cami - Having fresh flowers on her desk brings her joy, especially when studying! So she’s decided to treat herself every couple of weeks to a bouquet💐

Kailey - Her adorable dog who she’s been spending extra quality time with lately🐶

Sarah- Reading! It’s encouraged her growth and love for time spent alone. It allows her to step away from work and focus on herself 📖

Diana - Journaling as she’s rediscovered her passion for writing by putting less pressure on what she writes and how often and focusing instead on putting whatever thoughts come to mind onto paper ✍️

What brings you joy? We’d love to hear it!

“Dear high school self…” is our first social media campaign. The goal of this project is to share what we have learned since graduation via a written letter or short video clip.

Our first feature is from Josée Levesque, a local entrepreneur, fitness trainer, and coach 🦋
