Then let’s hear it! Voices for Change 2027 gives Manitoba high school students the chance to work with a professional poet and turn a global issue they care about into a spoken word piece. 🎤

You’ll create with other young poets, have your piece professionally recorded and get opportunities to perform on different platforms! 🙌

Consider what reconciliation means to you. Consider how we can be better allies.

We spent a beautiful morning with Helen Agger at the Water Node in Assiniboine Park & Zoo. We talked about truths and the meaning of reconciliation.

We honour and remember residential school Survivors, the children who never returned home and their families and communities. Together, let us continue working towards healing, understanding, and reconciliation.

Check out these thoughtful reads from our 2026 Reading Lists in English et en français! These stories explore identity, resilience and healing.

For adult readers, S***m Road Exit by Amber Dawn. A q***r woman returns to a dying lakeside Ontario town and begins experiencing the supernatural. This novel explores redemption, healing and survivorship.

For students in Grades 7–9, If I Go Missing by Brianna Jonnie with Nahanni Shingoose, illustrated by Neal Shannacappo. Inspired by a letter Brianna wrote to Winnipeg’s chief of police at age 14. This graphic novel draws attention to the dangers Indigenous girls face and why their safety and voices matter.

Quand on était seuls, par David A. Robertson est un livre en français pour les plus jeunes, parfait pour honorer la Journée nationale de la vérité et de la réconciliation. Voici un aperçu : lorsqu’une jeune fille remarque chez sa grand-mère ses cheveux tressés et sa langue crie, cette curiosité pousse sa grand-mère à lui raconter son expérience dans un pensionnat. Do you want to learn more about where Canada’s international assistance goes and the issues it supports? 🌍

Cooperation Canada’s new online platform, Atlas, makes it easier to explore data on Canada’s international development and humanitarian assistance.

Atlas was recently presented in Winnipeg at Canadian Foodgrains Bank, where local staff and volunteers working in international development and humanitarian assistance gathered to learn about the platform from Cooperation Canada staff.

What does peace mean to you? What does it look or feel like? 🕊️

Students explored these questions during a creative multimedia session at the 2026 Generating Momentum for Our World Youth Conference.

They shared their ideas through colourful drawings, illustrations and collages for a zine called Some Peace of Mind.

Their artwork shows different visions of peace, including kindness, inclusion, community, teamwork, safety and care for our planet.

For the International Day of Peace, we’re sharing some of their creations.

Do you like movies? 🎬

We think you'll love watching one at Noon this Sunday! 𝙒𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙤𝙪 is screening at the African Movie Festival in Manitoba on September 20 at 12 p.m. at WAG-Qaumajuq.

The documentary follows a midwife in rural Burkina Faso who opens an independent maternity clinic so women in her community can get the care they need.

What better way to kick off Gender Equality Week! Wolobougou opens up important conversations about women’s leadership, access to maternal healthcare and the barriers women continue to face around the world.

Meet Colin Dorrian!

We presented Colin with the 2026 Paul LeJeune Volunteer Service Award this past summer.

MCIC's Paul LeJeune Volunteer Service Award is announced each year since it was established in 2001. It recognizes and honours volunteers who have contributed greatly to MCIC.

Colin has dedicated countless hours to MCIC during his time on our board. We are grateful for his time and efforts over the years and wish him all the best. Please join us in thanking Colin for all his hard work!

Colin represented Alongside Hope on MCIC's board.
