Heartwood Healing Centre Non-profit supporting childhood sexual abuse survivors and raising awareness of this form of trauma.

With gratitude, humility, and respect, we recognize and honour that Heartwood Healing Centre is located on the traditional territories of the Anishinaabeg (Ojibwe), Anishinabewaki (Oji-Cree), Dené, Michif Piyii (Métis), Nêhiyawak (Cree), and Očhéthi Sakowin (Dakota). We recognize the historical and ongoing violence of colonization, respect the original treaties made to live respectfully and in harmony on this land, and commit to working toward reconciliation.

Thanks to a partnership with the University of Winnipeg, individuals who are accessing therapy at Heartwood have an opportunity to also attend relational sessions with masters level student therapists!  The Relationship Counseling Program will offer up to 12 sessions or 6 months of therapy and is available for our participants who want to grow or improve an aspect of their relationship with one or more loved ones.
*Please note this program is open to participants who;
-Currently access individual therapy
-Previously accessed individual therapy
-Currently are involved with CAT group programming
You may be a good fit for Relational Sessions if you:
• Have an interest in building understanding, supporting life transitions or working on a particular issue with a (16+) fam.
• Are in long term therapy or otherwise connected with supports outside of the relational sessions.
• Have some flexibility to attend appointments on a student’s schedule.
• Are comfortable working with a student from the MMFT (Masters of Marriage and Family Therapy) program.
You may not be a good fit if you are:
• Seeking support for a highly conflictual relationship, or a relationship where there is active abuse.  (Please let your counselor know if this is the case.)
• Facing crisis, instability, or you or your loved ones have inadequate resourcing to support the sessions.
Relational sessions can be:
• In person (at Heartwood) or video.
• For our participants with one or more others.
Please contact Dana and Kris for more information.

Staff from Heartwood Healing Centre attended the 3rd Annual Gender-Based Violence Symposium organized by Manitoba Association of Women’s Shelters + Circling Buffalo. Our time here was very meaningful and we wanted to share some of the moments we interacted with. We are grateful for the knowledge + care that was shared with the community and we value this time together.

If you are in this video and would like to be tagged, please comment or send us a message and we will do so 😊

Today, October 4, is the National Day of Action for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ People (MMIWG2S+).

Thousands of Indigenous women, girls, and 2 2SLGBTQQIA+ have gone missing or been murdered. We are sharing statistics that we hope can help bring change.

These are hard truths that should not exist.

Indigenous women, girls, and 2 2SLGBTQQIA+ are worthy of safety.
Indigenous women, girls, and 2 2SLGBTQQIA+ are worthy of living.
Indigenous women, girls, and 2 2SLGBTQQIA+ are worthy of healing.
Indigenous women, girls, and 2 2SLGBTQQIA+ are worthy of having their voices heard.

Indigenous women, girls, and 2 2SLGBTQQIA+ are worthy.

Heartwood Healing Centre is closed Wednesday, September 30 to honour National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Please feel free to comment additional events in honour of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. If you like, you can share what you are doing in honour of this day.

We remember that many children did not make it home from residential schools and that the majority of those who attended were in unsafe and violent situations.

Many children experienced childhood sexual abuse in the residential school system and being abused in this way as a child increases the likelihood of facing abuse as an adult.

At Heartwood Healing Centre, we support folks who have experienced childhood sexual abuse with free support groups, therapy, and more. Some of our participants experienced their abuse in the residential school system. Some of our participants come from family lines where their families attended these schools.

Heartwood Healing Centre proudly supports Indigenous participants through events like sharing circles, rattle-making, drum-making, beading, medicine picking, full moon ceremonies and more.

If you are a survivor and need emotional support, the Residential School Survivor Support Line is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 1-866-925-4419.

If you have experienced childhood sexual abuse and would like to start your healing journey with Heartwood Healing Centre, please go to our website and select the “Contact Us Now” option.
