You are still asking us if Manitoba monarchs will make their journey to Mexico. Let’s take a look at a map provided by monarchjointventure.org.
Notice that Winnipeg is in the light green area of the map. What does that mean? The light green represents the area of degrees latitude where the SASN (sun angle at solar noon) is less than 35.6. There are no known migratory successes in this range.
In other words, if a monarch butterfly was to eclose today and begin its migration to Mexico, it is anticipated that it most likely will not reach its sanctuary destination of the oyamel fir forests in the Volcanic Mountains just northwest of Mexico City. There are many factors to consider including temperature, weather and winds, drought, nectar sources, and time.
