The infamous Zigzag is back!
In case you’ve forgotten (it’s been 8 years!) the Zigzag meant that if you wanted to ride your bicycle to the Riverside Library, or Pillette Park, or Nancy John’s Gallery, or the Metro Grocery Story — anywhere along the Wyandotte Street Corridor in Riverside or Pillette Village — you’re out of luck.
Back in 2017, Windsor Star reporter Anne Jarvis wrote, “The proposed route is not as the crow flies – unless that crow downed a double martini. Instead, it’s an inexplicably Byzantine expedition: George south to Seminole, east to Pillette, north to South National, southeast to Jefferson, north to Edgar, east to Edward and back to Wyandotte. It’s a combination of bike lanes, sharrows and a multi-use trail, for a total of 5.3 kilometres. Hope there are lots of signs.”
In response, dozens of cyclists joined us for a protest ride to City Hall where we were summarily dismissed by the Mayor.
And here we are, once again, fighting for safe spaces on routes we need and deserve to access.
If you’re able, please attend the Public Information Centre at Riverside Library from 4:30pm today.
