The Windsor Residence for Young Men (WRYM) is a charitable organization designed to promote the emotional and temporal welfare of homeless male persons, 16 to 24 years of age, with the primary focus of reconciliation with family or independent living.

For the young people who come after them, those handprints serve as a reminder that they are not alone, that progress is possible, and that there is hope for what comes next.

Invest in yourself. Build your future. 📚

The Youth Independence Program (YIP) helps young people build the practical life skills, knowledge, and confidence they need to move toward greater independence.

Through a three-month, classroom-based program, participants explore everything from self-confidence and communication to employment, transportation, budgeting, tenant rights, goal setting, and independent living. Youth who complete YIP are also eligible for a high school credit through the Public Alternative Secondary School (PASS).

Building brighter futures through financial empowerment! 💸

We’re proud to spotlight Services Windsor-Essex and their Voluntary Trusteeship and Financial Literacy Program, which supports individuals in developing essential money management skills, creating budgets, working toward savings goals, and preparing for greater financial independence.

For the young men at WRYM, learning how to manage money is an important part of preparing for life beyond supportive housing. We’re grateful to Family Services Windsor-Essex for helping our residents build practical skills, confidence, and a stronger foundation for independence. 💚

Progress can happen in just a few weeks. 💙

A young man recently came to WRYM after experiencing a difficult family situation. In just two weeks, he has already taken meaningful steps toward improving his well-being and building a stronger foundation for his future.

He has connected with counselling supports, attended his first physical exams in ten years, and shown a remarkable willingness to work toward positive change.

At WRYM, we know that everyone’s journey looks different. Sometimes, progress starts with simply having a safe place, supportive people, and the opportunity to take that first step. Our programs provide housing, emotional support, life-skills teaching, and connections to community services to help young people move toward stability and independence.

His story is a reminder that change doesn’t have to happen all at once. Every step forward matters.

Every milestone matters. 💙

When John first came to WRYM, he had very little experience navigating the community independently. In less than two months, he went from needing support to take the bus to successfully completing a bus route to his destination and back on his own.

It may seem like a small accomplishment, but learning to navigate the community independently is an important life skill and a meaningful step toward greater confidence and independence.

At WRYM, we believe that progress looks different for everyone. Sometimes, success is simply realizing, “I can do this on my own.”

We’re proud to celebrate John’s progress and the hard work that goes into every step forward. WRYM provides supportive housing, life-skills teaching, and community connections to help young people build the skills and confidence they need for the future.

“Look with your eyes, not your mind, and then think about it.”

In this evocative watercolour, artist Greg Goulin explores the choices, obstacles, and uncertainties that shape a child’s journey through life.

A parent guides their child down a road after a storm, helping them navigate the puddles and obstacles along the way. Ahead, a sunlit park offers a glimpse of possibility and belonging. But the road eventually forks.

The question becomes: as the child grows older and the parent can no longer guide them, which side of the road will they choose?

Goulin's work reminds us that the paths we take are shaped by the environments around us, the obstacles we encounter, and the people who help guide us along the way.

What a night! We’re excited to share a look back at WRYM’s very first Cruise for a Cause. From the beautiful Windsor-Detroit waterfront views to dinner, live music, laughter, and great company, it was an incredible evening made possible by our amazing community of supporters.

A huge thank you to everyone who came aboard, volunteered, sponsored, donated, shared our event, or helped make the evening such a success. Your support helps WRYM provide housing, life-skills programming, outreach, aftercare, and ongoing support to young people working toward stability and independence.
