We are excited to invite artists to submit proposals for the 2026 program. Selected artists will receive a professional fee based on CARFAC standards for 2026.

Applications open: May 16 – June 7, 2026
Deadline: Sunday, June 7 at 11:59 PM

The aim of the program is to amplify the voices of underrepresented communities, including, but not limited to, emerging artists, newcomers, artists of colour, Indigenous artists, artists with disabilities, Francophone artists, and 2SLGBTQ+ communities within the Windsor-Essex region. If you identify with any of these communities, you are welcome to apply.

To apply, please visit acwr.net/new-voices-2026-open-call/ and fill out the submission form. Or visit the link in our bio.

The New Voices program was originally launched by the Arts Council Windsor & Region in June 2021 on the exterior wall adjacent to ArtSpeak Gallery. Over two years, the program successfully presented the work of more than ten local artists from underrepresented communities. Its new iteration in Ford City builds on the success of the original program while expanding its reach to a new neighbourhood. It aims to engage with local histories, highlight the surrounding environment, and foster a sense of presence and belonging.

We gratefully acknowledge the support of the WindsorEssex Community Foundation’s Community Impact Grant in bringing this new iteration of the New Voices program to life, as well as our partner organization, Artcite Inc.

Windsor Based Christian Artist inspired by God, Nature & Joy

Born and raised in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, my creative journey truly began in 1983 when a two-month trip to Israel unexpectedly turned into seven and a half years of life-changing experience. It was there that I met Miriam, a gifted artist who saw something in me I hadn’t yet recognized. She told me, quite matter-of-factly, that watercolor would be my medium.

“Because it’s easy?” I asked.
“No, my dear,” she replied gently, “it’s just what I believe suits you.”

At the time, I hadn’t painted much at all. Though I’m self-taught, I once tried attending a workshop to improve my skills—but left each evening in tears. It was during that season I heard a still, small voice say:
“If I’d wanted you to paint like ‘so-and-so,’ I would have made you him.”

That moment changed everything. Since then, I’ve committed to staying in my own lane—painting from the heart, embracing the quirks, and trusting the process.

Watercolor has become one of my main artistic languages. It’s fluid, unpredictable, and deeply expressive—much like the journey that brought me here. Thank you for joining me in this unfolding story.

This week at Art Speak Gallery “Millennium Syndrome: A Cinema in the Head” by Luyin Li

May 04 – 08
Closing Night May 8th @ 7pm

This exhibition unfolds as a personal reflection by a millennium kid on the evolution of media.

“From the static, distortion, and flicker of early television in the 2000s, to the high-definition digital environments of the 2010s, and further into the AI-driven proliferation of images in the 2020s, the exhibition traces a shifting media landscape. Across the space, I construct a sequence of installations corresponding to these eras: glitching family tapes played through an analog television, an interactive system presented on a large-format screen, and AI-mediated reinterpretations of photographs I have taken across Windsor.”

On display this week at ArtSpeak Gallery: Places and Things and People and Places | Anastasia Adams & Jack Bortolin

A selection of paintings from Anastasia Adams and photographs from Jack Bortolin (a fun mother/son collab!). A closing reception will be held on Friday May 1st from 6-9pm, all are welcome.

Anastasia’s paintings explore themes of place and connecting oneself to the natural world by using light, movement, and energy within a variety of contexts. Delving into and abstracting images from natural landscapes and organic form, her paintings are predominantly acrylic and mixed media on canvas.

Jack’s photos are snapshots of city life from a pedestrian’s point of view exploring landscape, perspective and spaces often overlooked without regard. He slows down time and pauses in soothing compositions that reframe seemingly mundane or casual moments and offers viewers a second glance.
