🍿 Father's Day at Exchange

We're celebrating all the dads and father figures in our Exchange family with free popcorn for everyone.

We'll also hear a special 5 for 5 Father's Day edition, featuring five dads from our community sharing what God has been teaching them about the heart of a father:

• Wayne Schiener
• Matty Miggins
• Rick Brushett
• Terry Dodich
• Eric Versluis

We hope it's going to be a little bit inspiring and a lot of fun!

A year of growth. A summer of opportunity.

This year, we've watched our Jr High students build friendships, pray for one another, serve others, and begin discovering how
God has uniquely gifted them.

We're so proud of the young leaders they're becoming.

June 21 will be our final Jr High gathering before summer, but the adventure isn't over.

Starting July 5, we're launching into Serve Summer: an opportunity for students to move from sitting to serving, explore their gifts, and discover what it looks like to live out their faith in practical ways.

Parents, thank you for trusting us with your students this year.

Students, we can't wait to see what God does through you this summer.

☀️ Last Jr High: June 21
🙌 Serve Summer Begins: July 5

A huge shout out to Brian Jacques for celebrating 10 years of sobriety this past weekend. No drink or drugs for over 3650 days!

Brian serves as the Ministry Lead for Worship here at Exchange and we think Brian’s recovery journey is a great example of what life as a fully exchanged follower of Jesus can look like!

Reflecting on his journey over the last ten years, Brian says, “Thanks to such a strong recovery community and everybody who encouraged me along the way, and they were right.. I got everything back and then a whole bunch of blessings and gifts of recovery.”

We know there are many people in our Exchange community who are going through their own addiction and recovery journey.

We see you and we want Exchange to be a place where people feel safe to exchange hiding for acceptance; where we can be honest about what we are going through and be met with grace and love.

To celebrate Brian’s milestone, here are some of Brian’s favourite recovery sayings that have helped him along the way:

- You can only keep what you have by giving it away

- You don’t have to know what God is yet, it just can’t be you.

- I’d rather be up and down than down and out.

- The only thing you have to change is everything

- One is too many and a thousand is never enough

- Just do the next right thing

- Secrets keep us sick

- One day at a time

- Don’t leave before the miracle happens

- I should try listening to someone else because my best thinking got me here

- What we can’t do alone, we can do together

- The biggest room in the world is room for improvement

- Holding onto a resentment is like drinking poison, and expecting the other person to die

This Sunday is your last chance to bring in much needed donations to support our friends at House of Hope as part of our Love All, Serve All focus for May.

They are in need of:

- Walmart Gift Cards

- Dollarama Gift Cards

- Household Cleaners

- Toilet Paper

- Sugar

- Margarine

Bring any of these items with you on Sunday, drop them off at the Welcome Desk and we’ll bring them all to House of Hope this week, so they can get them in the hands of those who need them most, ASAP!

If an alien spacecraft landed in your yard, and a little green alien got out, knocked on your door, and asked you to explain what a ‘fully exchanged follower of Jesus’ is… how would you answer them?

A Funeral or a Wedding?

Where is God most present?

Last weekend, Netty and I attended both a funeral and a wedding where Jesus was fully present and available in both places.

Heartache and grief where we felt Him weeping (literally pouring as we said our goodbyes) and raucous joy & dancing as we watched Him turn two into one.

I’ve been thinking, maybe that’s why loss hits so hard, it’s the costly side of love.

We wouldn’t hurt so bad if we didn’t love so deep.

What Jesus is teaching me these days is that He can really speak to us no matter what season we are in and that we really don’t live by bread alone but by every word that comes from His heart to ours.

Looking forward to sharing more this Sunday when we’re all gathered together.

Looking forward to hearing how Jesus has been speaking to you lately too!

See you Sunday.

Throwing it back to Mother’s Day at Exchange.

We loved hearing from 5 amazing women and a whole bunch of fantastic kids too.

Everyone in the theatre was hanging on every word of honest wisdom that was shared!

It’s the May long weekend, which means it’s a Sabbath Sunday here at Exchange.

Translation:
If you show up at the theatre at 10am on Sunday… you’re just gonna end up buying a movie ticket because we won’t be there 😂

Why?

Because our volunteers are what make Sundays happen.

- KidsChurch.
- Music.
- Tech.
- Greeters.
- Jr High.
- Setup.

All of it.

No volunteers = no Sunday gathering.

Our teams are amazing, but many of them are currently serving 2, 3, or even 4 Sundays a month. That’s incredible… but it can also be exhausting.

So a few times a year we pause, rest, and give our Sunday Missionaries the break they deserve.

One of our dreams at Exchange is to become the exception to the old church rule that “20% of people do 80% of the work.”

We’d love to see 80%+ of our church serving in some way so that no one carries too much of the load alone.

That’s why one of our core values is:

Exchange SITTING for SERVING.
Church isn’t just something we consume.
It’s something we build together.

So if you’ve been attending but haven’t jumped onto a team yet… this is your sign 🙂

You can:
→ Reply to this post
→ Talk to Pastor Brad
→ Visit Next Steps on a Sunday

TL;DR:
• No gathering on May 17
• We’re back May 24
• Our volunteers are awesome
• You should join a team 🙂

Last week a bunch of young adults from Exchange spent their evening serving our friends at Marlborough Public School to help make their annual Night of the Arts a success.

They served over 200 snow cones and 200 hot dogs (only 2 hot dogs were burnt to a crisp in the process.)

Lots of fun was had and it was so inspiring to see our young adults exchange sitting for serving and demonstrate the love of Jesus to their neighbours in this practical way!
