Maranatha Grade 8 Class Claims Top Spot in National Math Contest!
This year our students took on the Gauss Contest, a national math challenge run by the University of Waterloo that pushes students to solve tough word problems using math and logic. It is designed to be hard, and this year was no exception. Across more than 50 Christian schools in Ontario, 859 students wrote the test.
Here is where our students shined.
A score of 95 out of 150 or higher placed a student in the top 25% across all of those Christian schools, earning a Certificate of Distinction. This year, 14 of our students reached that mark. That is the most Distinction certificates Maranatha has ever earned in a single class.
When the class was ranked by their combined top 3 scores, they placed 2nd overall. Ranked by their top 6 scores, they took 1st. Ranked by their top 10 scores, they took 1st again. That kind of depth across a whole class says something about the learning happening in these classrooms every day.
Isaiah P. scored 134 out of 150, the highest score out of all 859 students who wrote the test. He earned an additional Certificate of Outstanding Achievement for placing first overall.
"This class really put in a strong effort," said Mr. Gagne. "This is an amazing result and I couldn't be more proud of them. This test was very challenging this year as well. All praise be to God."
Congratulations to every student who took on this challenge. You worked hard, you showed what you are capable of, and you made your teachers, your families, and your school incredibly proud.
