The Peer Support Centre is recruiting volunteers for the 2022/2023 academic year. Volunteering with PSC is a great opportunity to receive extensive training and practical application. PSC practices active listening, resource distribution, and empowering individuals to make their own decisions. We do not give advice; we just provide a safe space for students to talk freely and have someone listen. PSC has approximately 35 volunteer positions including the opportunity for leadership roles. Over the year the volunteers get to know each other and form friendships while gaining skills and knowledge. PSC is a great opportunity to participate in campus life, an asset to resumes, and beneficial to graduate applications.
The commitment for volunteers is 2-2 hour shifts a week and a one hour bi-weekly meeting. There could also be a monthly special topics training session if the new Coordinator determines that is beneficial. You will also be required to promote the centre so that students are aware of the service and how to access it. This promotion will be done in small groups as outreach events on campus. When your outreach event happens, you will not be scheduled for shifts, so your time commitment remains the same. These events can be fun and allow you to become part of student life.
PSC can be found on social media at uwsapsc on Instagram and on Facebook as University of Windsor Peer Support Centre. The centre typically closes over the summer, but there are many posts to review for reference. Interested applicants should email their responses to the questions listed on the attached poster to [email protected]. You could be contacted for an interview anytime from next week or in August, so please be sure to keep checking your email so you do not miss your opportunity. Training for the upcoming year typically takes place for a week and it is a week or two prior to the start of school. Training is mandatory attendance.
