Invasives Canada

Invasives Canada Raising awareness on invasive species. Protecting ecosystems and communities nationwide.

The Canadian Council on Invasive Species (CCIS) is now Invasives Canada (Espèces envahissantes Canada). This operating name change represents our national mission to prevent and control the spread of invasive species while expanding our network and voice. Along with our new name comes a fresh visual identity—a logo that symbolizes protection, resilience, and restoration. While our name has evolved

, our dedication remains the same: safeguarding Canada’s ecosystems, economies, and communities by reducing the introduction and spread of invasive species. We’re excited for this next chapter and look forward to building a future where nature thrives. Learn more about our transition and what’s next: https://canadainvasives.ca/new-name-clearer-mission/

🤔 Did you know some invasive plants can continue to spread after they've been removed?

If you're tackling invasive plants on your property or participating in a community removal event, take a moment to learn the best disposal methods for your target species. Proper disposal helps ensure your hard work doesn't unintentionally contribute to new infestations:

🌱 Never dump yard waste in natural areas
☀️ Dry plant material before disposal when appropriate
🚛 When in doubt, send invasive plant material to the landfill

From identification and removal to disposal, each action plays a role in preventing the spread of invasive plants.

___

🌿 Want to remove invasive plants but not sure where to start?

We've got you covered!

Before removing any invasive species, it’s important to make sure:
🔍 You’ve identified the species correctly
📚 You understand the best removal approach
🌱 You know how to avoid accidentally spreading it further

The Ontario Invasive Plant Council's Best Management Practices (BMPs) provide practical, science-based guidance to help support your invasive plant management efforts.

Whether you’re volunteering at a community pull, managing your own property, or just learning more about invasive species, these resources can help you take action with confidence.

Together, we can help stop the spread 💚

Small actions become bigger when we do them together 🌎

This week, ISAM focuses on Stopping Invasives Together and the collective impact of community action.

Preventing the spread of invasive species doesn’t happen with one big action. It happens through many people taking small, consistent steps in their daily lives, workplaces, and communities.

Simple actions you can take:
✔ Join a local stewardship or invasive species removal event
✔ Participate in a bioblitz or monitoring effort
✔ Volunteer with a local invasive species organization
✔ Encourage others to take InvasiveWise actions

Every report, conversation, volunteer hour, and action helps build momentum.
