Happy Child Care Provider Appreciation Day, and thank you for the incredible work you do every day.

Since 1982, May has been recognized as Child Care Month in BC, and this year, May 8th has been proclaimed Child Care Provider Appreciation Day.

This special day is an opportunity to honour, celebrate, and recognize the important role child care providers play in the lives of children and families throughout our communities.

Today, we wear red.

May 5th is Red Dress Day, a National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People (MMIWG2S).

This day serves as a powerful reminder of the systemic violence, injustice, and heartbreaking loss that Indigenous communities across Canada and the U.S. continue to face. The red dress has become a symbol β€” a haunting but hopeful call to remember those who are missing, to honor those taken too soon, and to demand action and justice.

We stand in solidarity with Indigenous families and communities. We recognize the deep pain, strength, and resilience behind every red dress that hangs in memory. Let us not only remember β€” let us act, listen, learn, and support ongoing efforts for truth and reconciliation.
