The Child Development Centre

The Child Development Centre We provide services to support children's development from birth to age 5 in all Yukon communities. Our services are free.

Reach out with any questions you have about your child's development, or fill out a referral form at www.cdcyukon.ca/referral. The Child Development Centre offers a variety of programs and services designed to meet the unique needs of children and families. Therapists and families work together to develop a Family Plan that includes goals that are important to the family. We provide a wide range o

f services; from answering questions about behaviour, sleep and feeding, to providing physiotherapy or speech language therapy, to working with families whose child has just received a diagnosis. Some of the services we offer include:

- ideas to try at home;
- developmental assessments and follow-up;
- therapy;
- groups for children and/or parents;
- visits to childcare centres; and
- child and youth diagnostic and support services. We see children and families in their home, childcare centre, at the Child Development Centre or anywhere in their community that suits them best. We have services in 2 locations in Whitehorse - at our Copper Ridge Place location and at the Dusk'a Headstart Family Learning Centre at our location in Kwanlin Dün. Your child does not need to have a diagnosis. If you have questions about your child's development contact us, we are here to help. Our services are free, and we take your lead in any services or supports your child may be offered. You can choose to receive services, or not and you can stop receiving services at anytime.

SHARING: Stop by the Family Place with Partners for Children and participate in Mini Mother Goose. Rhymes, songs and stories are a great way to support your child's development.

Songs support your child’s development in many ways. For example, singing a lullaby while rocking a baby stimulates early language development, promotes attachment, and supports an infant’s growing spatial awareness as the child experiences their body moving in space. What is great is that singing requires no special equipment or training. For your child, your voice is the safest and most familiar sound, and is far better than any recorded music (even if you are off key - children love the sound of their parents voice!) Sing songs from your language/culture. You can even make up your own songs!

Our office will be closed Wednesday, August 26 as our staff gather for a day of learning and reflection, led by IRP Consulting.

Throughout the 2026–2027 program year, we will be working with IRP to deepen our understanding of reconciliation, strengthen our relationships with Yukon First Nations, and ensure our work continues to be grounded in respect, intention, and accountability.

We are grateful to Yukon First Nation Education Directorate for welcoming us to gather at their land based campus Ämà Kú.

We will reopen Thursday and respond to messages when we return.

Fall Story Time begins NEXT WEEK!

Join us upstairs in the library for songs, rhymes and stories on Tuesdays from 10:30 to 11:30 am, August 25 to October 6, 2026.

This is a free drop-in program for children ages 0-5 and their caregivers. Healthy snack provided.
